Forward Joakim Noah on his new Bulls deal: "I'm happy, man." (Phil Velasquez/Tribune)
The Bulls on Monday officially announced Joakim Noah's five-year contract extension, which was reported by multiple media outlets on Sunday.
"I'm happy, man," Noah said late Sunday. "This is where I always wanted to be."
The roughly $60 million deal -- with incentives that can take it higher -- will go into effect after the 2010-11 season and prevents Noah from becoming a restricted free agent next summer.
"We're pleased because both sides wanted to get this deal done," said Dan Fegan, who, along with Donald Dell, negotiated the deal with Bulls management.
Noah was the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft and has become the heart and soul of the Bulls' defense and rebounding.
"Joakim is such an integral member of our team and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with him," general manager Gar Forman said in a statement. "His presence, both on and off of the court, is immeasurable and we look forward to him to continue to improve and develop his game."

Noah has earned every penny!!! who else on the bulls plays with his type of energy! congrats Noah!
Will be interesting to see all what all those who were predicting that The Bulls would let Noah go, rather than pay him.
Never really made sense to me to Reinsdorf cheap, given what he has paid White Sox players in the past, as well as giving MJ $36M for one season and then the same people turn around and criticize Deng's contract as too big.
You can't be a cheapskate and then overpay someone.
Good for the Bulls, he is now also a tradeable asset as well. Should he be the lynch-pin of the Mello trade it would make more sense now, although I would still not give him up for Mello.
If Noah continues at the current pace he has shown, and continues to improve at the rate he has, and can unlike Carlos Boozer, manage to stay relatively injury free, then it seems like a pretty good deal for the Bulls. Considering they're paying Noah at around the same amount as Deng, the Bulls have come out good on the deal. And obviously Noah is showing his loyalty to the Bulls as well for signing the deal. Noah's more valuable than Deng, and if Noah continued putting up the double-double averages, he would have gotten a better deal on the open market imo.
