Taylor Swift on the sidelines with Selena Gomez. (Nuccio DiNuzzo / Tribune) By Brian Hamilton
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- For her first trip to a Notre Dame football game, Taylor Swift had one somewhat unthinkable request for a world-famous pop star: She wanted to sit with her brother in the student section.
Fearless, indeed.
Notre Dame officials thought the better of that, however, and Swift watched from the sideline during the Irish's 23-12 season-opening victory over Purdue. Her younger brother, Austin, is a freshman at the school and she showed up replete with Notre Dame visor and pullover for the day.
The visit wasn't an extended one. Swift flew in Saturday morning and, immediately after the game, a car backed into the tunnel and she was whisked into it and out of the stadium. With a win and a Swift sighting, was this, ahem, The Best Day for Irish fans? Probably close.

It's good to see Selena Gomez was interested in watching a real football team in action, decked out in their gear nonetheless. She won't have that opportunity at Northwestern. Smart girl.
Selena Gomez was accepted at Northwestern, and will be attending when she finishes her current movie.
Thankfully for her she can start watching a better football team than Notre Dame.
Trib, glad to see you removed the inappropriate comments posted here earlier.
Word on the street is that Kayne West was cheering for Purdue to win.
My sister was quick to point them out with an open mouth on a golf cart as they drove by... I think she enjoyed seeing them more than the actual game! Irish won, so it was a win win in my book. Go Irish!
A friend of my wife said the crowd was very enthusiastic. He was visiting with friends from USC and NYU in the student section. They conducted a poll, and found 72.11 of the student’s were watching Taylor’s new video, “Kissin U.” Twentyone point one percent were watching “Not So Far Away,” by Taylor’s good friend, Jennette McCurdy. 6.66 percent were watching a tweeted video of Victoria Justice, covering Oh Darling, and a whopping .13 were viewing “Mine.” When asked for comment, Ms.Swift said, “Yeah. Lucky 13. Think I’ll have another Boilermaker.” Ms. Gomez simply said, “No.”
Selena Gomez is a pretty big deal, too, Trib. You missed that?
OMG Selena Gomez was there too?
Is that Selena Gomez standing next to her? It's ridiculous that I know that. I have a teen aged daughter, forgive me. Go Bears.
