The Beverly Hills Courier reports: The Los Angeles County district attorney's office declined Tuesday to pursue a criminal case against former Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti, who was arrested last month on suspicion of domestic assault involving his girlfriend.
The matter was referred to the Los Angeles city attorney's office, according to a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office. A spokesman for the city attorney's office, which still could pursue charges, said the potential case had not been turned over yet.
Mariotti, a columnist for AOL Fanhouse who also appears on ESPN, was arrested at an apartment near Venice in the early-morning hours Aug. 21 and was released after posting $50,000 bail. He reportedly still is due in L.A. Superior Court on Sept. 17.
