Hurricane Earl could have effect on White Sox

BOSTON -- The latest forecast predicts rain for the Boston area by Friday afternoon, which could affect the White Sox's game with Boston at Fenway Park.

The rainy forecast stems from the edges of Hurricane Earl, which is supposed to strike Cape Cod, about 60 miles south of Boston.

Since Hurricane Earl has been anticipated for several days, the Sox should have alternate plans in the event rain delays or postpones Friday's game -- unlike the debacle two weeks ago in Kansas City that resulted in Tony Pena making his first major league start and the Sox playing 31 innings in 22 hours.
As of now, John Danks is scheduled to start Friday night. Since this is the Sox's only trip to Boston, they could play a doubleheader Saturday since Sunday is a getaway day before they open a four-game series at Detroit.

If they do play a doubleheader Saturday, it could cause them to use one of their recent callups - such as Lucas Harrell -  to start Wednesday at Detroit unless they elect to use Danks or Gavin Floyd, who is scheduled to start Saturday, on short rest.

Thursday marks the Sox's last day off until Sept. 13, a day before they open a three-game series against American League Central leader Minnesota.

Mancancer? Manny is a cancer? Jesus- if cancer gave me two World Series wins (remember, he was MVP in 2004), multiple division titles (including bringing a middling Dodgers team to the NLCS after mauling the Cubs) and some 500+ homeruns, I will take that cancer. Read the story about Thome vouching for Manny. He's a spacecase and a flake, but a hard worker who wins everywhere he goes. Cancer. Come on.

The article didn't suggest using a rookie for one of the double header games. It says "If they do play a doubleheader Saturday, it could cause them to use one of their recent callups - such as Lucas Harrell - to start yr6skn at Detroit unless they elect to use Danks or Gavin Floyd, who is scheduled to start Saturday, on short rest."

In case the game tonight is rained out, I do not understand why the Sox would simply push Danks back one day and then use their regularly scheduled starter for Saturday in the second game. I understand this would require one starter to pitch on short rest next week, but it's only one start! Why the hell do they make things so complicated? If they use a minor leaguer in a Double-header they can kiss the season goodbye!

wow, it took 7 posts to bring up the Cubs. How predictable.

Yes, Kenny makes GREAT moves:

Letting Thome go

Signing Ken Griffey Jr. 15 years past his prime

Signing Manny for no apparent reason

Peavey was a brilliant move, how's he doin?

Edwin Jackson was a fluke, he was not even supposed to be on the Sox, he was to get Adam Dunn (to replace Thome, who he let get away) Where is Dunn??????

Now we're gonna use a hurricane for an excuse? Face it kids....this season is OVAHHHHHHH

Hey Dan-C You sound like a Cub's fan. The only thing mentioned that made sense, he might be the best GM.
Get a life!

Yeah, Edwin Jackson, just lucky for 5 games now. And that McCarthy for Danks trade, Williams got lucky again. And Garcia for Gavin Floyd, more luck. Don't forget the lucky pickup of Rios. That Kenny Williams is one lucky guy. Or maybe he's just the best GM in the business.

He has found pitching, I'm not sure if you've heard of a guy named Edwin Jackson moron.

Yeah, a guy who completely sucked in the NL West is probably a good solution. Everybody looks good for a handful of starts when they switch leagues moron.

Should have found some pitching Kenny, instead of the Mancancer.

Oh great. If tonight's game is postponed, the Sox will play a doubleheader Saturday or Sunday. We get to listen to Hawk make more excuses about the lousy decision not to play and how it messes up the rotation. Has Manny done anything yet?

Are you kidding me? on September 3, 2010 2:43 AM

Please. Time is running out. If you're serious about winning, you go with your best even if it's on short rest. These guys have at most six starts left in the season. They'll have all winter to rest, especially if they throw away games letting minor league call-ups start now. Of course, maybe Ozzie thinks it's still early, or just doesn't care.
