Crystal Lake South 10, Bartlett 9

Crystal Lake South's Joe Coriaci was hoping the ball would come his way and it did. The senior linebacker's memorable tackle of Bartlett tight end Russell Martin in the right flat on a two-point conversion try with 1 minute, 18 seconds remaining Friday night preserved his team's 10-9 victory.

Elk Grove 30, Barrington 23, OT

Elk Grove senior quarterback Nick Meyer did his best to wear out Barrington's defense. The Broncos stuck to their running game and received some big plays from their secondary in the second half of a 30-23 overtime victory against the No. 16 Grenadiers. Meyer finished with 241 yards passing and 136 yards rushing.

"He's the real deal and really tough to stop," Barrington coach Joe Sanchez said of Meyer. "Our kids stepped up late in the game.

Glenbard West 21, Downers Grove South 16

Downers South senior running back Josh Williams did his best on the final drive with four carries for 34 yards and a key 14-yard first-down catch, but Glenbard West's Mike Marston intercepted Downers South quarterback A.J. Simoncelli inside the red zone with just 28 seconds remaining to preserve the Hilltoppers' 21-16 victory.

Joliet Catholic 25, Providence 13

Joliet Catholic's offense looked like it had energy to burn Friday, mostly because the Hilltoppers were rested.

After Providence held the ball for most of the first half and took a 7-6 lead into halftime, the Hilltoppers made sure the offense got more work in the last two quarters of a 25-13 victory at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

Illinois recruit Josh Ferguson rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on nine carries for Joliet Catholic (2-0), while defensive back C.J. Haney returned a fumble 29 yards for a touchdown in the third and intercepted a pass to help seal the win -- which was Joliet Catholic coach Dan Sharp's first against the Celtics in seven games spread over 21 years.

Lake Zurich 10, Cary-Grove 3

Tied with less than a minute remaining in regulation, No. 6 Lake Zurich and Cary-Grove appeared destined for overtime.

But Bears running back Jacob Brinlee eliminated any thought of that Friday night when he ripped off a 65-yard touchdown run with 56 seconds left to lift Lake Zurich (2-0) to a 10-3 road victory over Cary-Grove (0-2).

Lemont 42, Riverside-Brookfield 8

Lemont picked up its second blowout win in as many weeks with a 42-8 victory over Riverside-Brookfield on Friday night.

Senior quarterback Mike Medwed completed 9 of 10 passes for 105 yards to lead the Indians' offense. Medwed threw touchdown passes on three of Lemont's first four drives to put the Indians ahead early.

Lockport 28, Richards 21

Lockport running back Dan Holman found yards hard to come by Friday night against Richards.

He was held to 19 yards in the first half Friday but exploded in the second half for 82 yards to help the Porters beat the Bulldogs 28-21 in a nonconference game in Oak Lawn.

Naperville North 17, St. Charles East 0

Naperville North quarterback Matt LaCosse has shown he can be a force when running the football. In a 17-0 win at St. Charles East on Friday, the Minnesota-bound senior was forced to use his arm.

LaCosse found Dan Puknaitas for a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter for a 10-0 lead. The key play of the drive was 65-yard pass from LaCosse to Matt Stacho.

Neuqua Valley 20, Naperville Central 18

It's doubtful anybody was more relieved than Trent Snyder when Naperville Central's game-winning field-goal attempt clanged off the left upright and preserved a 20-18 victory for host Neuqua Valley on Friday.

Snyder had a spectacular night, running for 245 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns. But on his 30th carry, Snyder fumbled, and the Redhawks recovered on their own 20. They moved it to the Wildcats' 11 before Nathan Laskowski missed the field goal.

Palatine 28, Rolling Meadows 12

It has been a while, but Palatine finally beat Rolling Meadows.

The host Pirates snapped a three-year losing streak by downing the Mustangs 28-12 in a Mid-Suburban League crossover game Friday night.

An interception and two fumble recoveries led to three scores for Palatine (1-1).

Prairie Ridge 26, Crystal Lake Central 6

A 55-0 victory last week against a decimated Woodstock team raised few eyebrows when it came to Prairie Ridge's potential for a run at the Fox Valley Conference Valley division title.

Friday night's 26-6 win at Crystal Lake Central's Metcalf Field, that's a different story. Senior running back Connor Greenwald rushed 28 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and the Wolves' defense shutdown Crystal Lake Central for the game's final 45 minutes to avenge last year's 35-14 loss at home.

Schaumburg 28, Buffalo Grove 6

No. 7 Schaumburg picked up right where it left off after last week's upset victory over Maine South.

The Saxons ran Buffalo Grove into submission on Friday night, compiling 428 rushing yards, 302 of which came from senior Shepard Little, en route to a 28-6 victory.

Stevenson 42, Glenbrook South 20

Nobody needed the halftime break more than Stevenson's Joe Cassata.

The senior caught his breath after running for 197 yards, including touchdowns of 55, 60 and 69 yards. Oh yeah, he also caught a 14-yard pass for a touchdown.

The offensive outburst from the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder propelled the Patriots past host Glenbrook South 42-20 Friday night at John Davis Stadium in Glenview.

Waubonsie Valley 35, Oswego 28

Waubonsie Valley's Tom Kolzow threw touchdown passes on the Warriors' first two possessions of the second half Friday at Oswego to break open a close game on the way to a 35-28 victory.

He finished with four touchdown passes and 308 total yards.

Wheaton North 33, Lincoln-Way East 20

The best football game Friday in Wheaton wasn't on national television.

Reece Butler and his Wheaton North teammates don't have the cache of their crosstown rivals, but with all of the attention No. 1 Wheaton Warrenville South is receiving, North is well on its way to becoming the best kept secret in town.

In a game scheduled to prepare it for the rigors of the DuPage Valley, Butler threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns and the Falcons played well in all three phases to record a 33-20 victory over No. 5 Lincoln-Way East in Wheaton.
