The St. Louis Rams gave it a go with one former Bears safety in Kevin Payne before a knee injury in the final preseason game sent him to the injured-reserve list.
Now, the Rams have checked out another former Bears safety. Al Afalava had a workout for the Rams on Wednesday, according to a league source, four days after he was one of the team's final cuts to reach the 53-man roster. The Rams also worked out four wide receivers - Derek Hagan, Jason Hill, Demetrius Williams and Paul Williams.
Afalava suffered a nerve injury in one of his shoulders last season that impacted his play. He obviously passed a physical with the Bears to participate in the offseason program and in training camp, but one source said it could impact his strength and career moving forward.
Because Afalava played in 13 games as a rookie last season, he is not eligible to join a practice squad. Interestingly, Afalava and Payne were the starters in Green Bay in Week 1 last September.

The Rams are looking for guys that have starting experience. Anybody else notice that it was Payne who blew the coverage on Randy Moss' 70 yard TD catch in preseason? Maybe former Bears safeties are not the place to look for guys who can help your team.
I honestly thought Paul Williams would stick with a team when he came out of Fresno State as a west coast possession receiver. Apparently not.
Was wondering why he dropped so quickly on the depth chart. Not sure if they would've gotten anything in a trade, but wonder if they tried. That would've freed up a spot to try out a scrub...
Still don't like how they hide injuries like this and Forte's hamstring and knee last year. I understand not wanting to show people your cards, but it's often better to just report it and move on. DOn't think they're fooling anyone - 1st coupla plays you know someone's not full strength.
