Cutler on Bears' offense: 'We're going to be good'

| 3 Comments | UPDATED STORY

By Brad Biggs

There might not be anyone more excited about the start of the regular season being just four days away than Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

"Its gonna be a lot of balls in the air," he said.

A long offseason that began in early January with the firing of the majority of the offensive coaching staff has come to an end. The Bears finished 0-4 in preseason and looked rocky on offense at times, but the records are reset to 0-0 and Cutler is pledging that with a specifically targeted game plan, the offense will hum.

"It's been a long offseason," he said. "I think with the changes we made and learning the new offense, it's been a fun ride. I think everyone is a little anxious to get to the regular season."

Cutler described planning sessions with offensive coordinator Mike Martz
as more intense, more detailed. How soon will it be until it's actually
clicking?

"First quarter," Cutler responded.

Of the Lions game?

"I am just confident in what we're doing," he said. "The guys had a
great summer. With Mike calling the plays and making sure every detail
is taken care of, we're going to be good."

The Bears are expecting plenty of pressure from Jim Schwartz's defense.
Cutler was sacked 10 times in preseason and the Bears surrendered 19
sacks, more than any other team in the league. Detroit added free-agent
end Kyle Vanden Bosch to its defense and then used the second pick in
the draft on tackle Ndamukong Suh.

"I would think (the Lions will bring pressure)," Cutler said. "Some
stuff off the edges where we struggled, and they've got some good pass
rushes. I look for (the line) to be fine up there."

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!

Bears beat Detroit EASILY, Green bay gets upset in Philly,-

Bears go into week 2- in FIRST place!!!

REMEMBER YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!

Sorry Toby 44 but I see L's for Dallas, NYG, and Minn.....which translates to a more reasonable 8-8 than your pie-in-the-sky haluccination of 11-5!!! LMAO!!! Have another hit, my man!

Seriously, the Lions have won two games in the last two seasons! They are a better team this year, but still have a long way to go. The Bears will beat them with no problems!

Go Bears!

1-0 after Sunday.

Poor Lion homers, just gotta cling to that hope for an upset. Sorry to say, but you're still the team without a winning season since 2000. Its getting better, but the Bears will walk all over you as usual.

IvBearfan, you're wrong. The Bears went 1-3 in '85. They won their final pre-season game.

I am from Detroit I'm neither a bears fan nor lions fan but when martz was here defenses pinned their ears back and went after the QB cuz the guy refuses to run the ball. I hate to tell u but martz is an idiot and the league has caught up w/it. He'll be fired with the end of the year especially with that OL

In this case, "well" is more appropriate, not "good", as in "well", a deep hole.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't our '85 Bears go 0-4 in the preseason? I think they did, but then again, we had Da Coach.

All the stupid people posting negative comments here are not even Bears fans. GO BEARS!!!!

WE are going to b good... at LOSING!"

Then don't watch. The same goes for all you idiotic cynics. Go grab your bottles of Jergens and massage your fantasy football teams.

Here is the problem that is endemic to the problem of the bears:

Bears goal: playoffs

Real team: superbowl
(courtesy some other poster with whom i agree)

This is the fricken chicago nfl franchise and all they can hope upon hope for is a measly playoff appearance? in the watered down with pairity nfl? Teams have gone worst to first at least one team every year for the last 7 years with multiple superbowl victories, and the 3rd place bears cant hope to even win the division or go deep into the playoffs? Just a measly 10-6 team that gets eliminated in the first round, thats all lovie and the mcaskeys can aspire too? You hear it from the PLAYERS TOO, just playoffs. WTF? The attitude should be superbowl, These players will be satisfied with mediocrity, so they will never dominate, this is the lovie problem. If by some miracle the team comes together and they squeak out a first round appearance, and lose, Lovie and Angelo get to declare the season a success, and then, hell, the mckaskeys too!

I am putting my hatred for lovie aside, and i am going to hope they come together and strive for the top, but a mediocre team that just manages to win games due to roughing the passer and pass interference and god knows what other body protecting garbage the nfl decides to throw out there this year is not the team this city deserves.

You Bears fans are a bunch of whiners! I've never seen nor heard such a bunch of complainers! Preseason is preseason. The ones that do well there don't usually do that well in the regular season. I remember all the hype over Spurrier's Redskins when they went 4-0 in preseason clicking on all cylinders, and all the stupid pundits in the press saying they will be great! What happened to them? Sure there are realistic hurdles to overcome--the offense will probably not "click" until after the season starts. The O-line is questionable. But so are half the leagues O-lines. Let them play and come back to me after four games, and if everything is like it has been in pre-season then bring on the complaining. Not now!

Good one, Toby!
You didn't question my projections at all but you made me laugh! Thanks!

Sometimes I even find myself kind of dumb.

Miss Me Yet?

I dont care what anyone says, "Rex is our quarterback"!

Bears Schedule:
Det. W; Dal. W; GB L; NYG W; Car. W; Sea W; Wash. W; Buf. W; Min. W; Mia. W; Phil. L; Det. W; NE L; Min. L; NYJ W; GB L

11-5!

BubbaZannetti on September 8, 2010 4:15 PM

This is just standard hyperbole that a team QB or expected leader is supposed to make before the season to excite the masses into believing that the Bears will be good. Nice try, Jay, but obviously you didn't watch your pre-season game films because if you did you would see yourself running for your life like a deer trying to cross an expressway. How in the world could you make a self assured statement like that? I'm just hoping you make it through the season without being fitted for a body cast. Good luck, God bless but the Bears will be awful!

WE are going to b good... at LOSING!

.....and another thing:

What would the Chicago media be saying if the Bears HADN'T signed Peppers, Taylor, and Manumaleuna this off-season, and acquired a QB who had recently been selected to the Pro Bowl last off-season? I said it before and I'll keep saying it: The Chicago media are part of the problem. Their constant drumbeat of negativity does no good for the city or their professional sports franchises. They bring William Safire's phrase "nattering nabobs of negativism" to life.

'Our only chance of recovery is Lovie losing it on the sidelines ala Mike Dikta and showing the emotion and fury lacking by all players.

Nice to see that the morons are already in midseason form.

Why not give them a break, for cripes sakes? They haven't even played the first game of the season yet. It's not against the law for Bears fans to support the team once in awhile without whining. (Bears haters can go to Hades.)

It's going to be a long season.

Famous quotations:
"Read my lips...no new taxes." George H.W. Bush
"I did not have sex with that woman..." Bill Clinton
"We're going to be good." Jay Cutler

There's going to be alot TV shots of the Soldier field turf on Cutler's helmet.

peggy sue giggles on September 8, 2010 3:05 PM

well I am sure big things will happen maybe he will have more miss throws again to the other team. Lions are much better team this year. I personal don't see bears even making playoffs. packers vikings are much better than bears.

Lions 31 Bears 13

"It's going to be a lot of balls in the air"

That's right Jay. Your balls are going to be up in the air when you're driven into the ground by the opposing team's defense. Chris Williams and the rest of your OLine might as well be replaced by a bunch of revolving doors.

Bears fans have a right to demand better of the organization - yes. we are rooting for our team and the players but it continues to be more evident that there is no long term plan in place. I as a paying customer (and suffering through price increases) have every reason to expect a higher quality product for what i am paying.

That's not being negative, that's just a realistic expectation for a customer.

Frank DiPino on September 8, 2010 2:34 PM

["It's been a long offseason," he said.]

Wait 'till the regular season starts Jay!

to respond to 85Bears - if we fail to make the playoffs for the 4th straight year, while horrible, that may effect urgent changes. so my vote would be making the playoffs and keeping the current regime around for a few more years.

Great, now an idiot is being condescending to us.

I for one am excited for the first game of the Lovie Smith Farewell Tour.

rex grossman on September 8, 2010 2:21 PM

If Jay doesn't work out, can I come back.

I'm a 51 year old life long Bears fan. And talk is cheap. Time for our beloved Bears to "do it" on the playing field and keep quiet during the week. Fans (paying customers of every NFL team...remember us?) will decide if the product is worth admission....and as of today the 2010 Bears are a hard sell. Go Bears!

"JAY IS OUR QUARTERBACK"....Lovie Smith

Sportschick on September 8, 2010 2:01 PM

"Its gonna be a lot of balls in the air"...

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!

And by the way, jvande, there is a difference between being realistic and being negative. Just sayin'...

cutler is ready for the season and so is every Bear fan around the world so this sunday get ready for history as the Bears rise to the top once more.Go Bears..

I hope the Bears prove you negative d-bags wrong.

No matter what the Bears do, it will never be good enough for some. If you're a Bears fan (and not some idiot Broncos, Vikes, or Packer fans) why not root for your team rather than trash them?! It's one thing to complain about something they do, and it's another thing to complain about everything and wanting them to fail.

Go Bears!

The Bears should have a field day agasint Detriot but im not syaing they will. The lions have no legitimate pass rusher and their DB (Except Delmas) are almost as much of a joke as the Bears. Suh could probaly wreak havoc but i dont think he much of a pass rusher. i expect the Lion to be blitz heavy and it the BEar pick it up they win 27-17

Bears will beat the Lions easily this Sunday. Its a must win for the organization, fans and city. Confidence will be restored until we face the Cowboys and get crushed/exposed/embarrassed. Bears fans will die a little bit more every week after that. Our only chance of recovery is Lovie losing it on the sidelines ala Mike Dikta and showing the emotion and fury lacking by all players. I leave you with a final thought...What's worse, the Bears missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season or the bears making the playoffs and team Smith/Angelo getting extensions?

"Its gonna be a lot of balls in the air"

Hopefully most of them are caught by a Bears receiver and not a Lions DB

It's going to be interesting but I'm betting against any real improvement this year. I think the O-Line and the receivers stink and Cutler is very over-rated here in Chicago.

My only hope is that Angelo and Lovie are fired (hopefully Phillips too)!

Behind that offensive line, which has been neglected by Mr. Angelo for years, you do not have a chance.

IS RAO the new Nostradamus?

With the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select...

Monday morning headline: "Bears passing game fails to click in 27-17 loss to Lions".

Lovie says he will go back and watch the film.
