Beckham scratched; Konerko out of Sox's lineup

DETROIT -- Second baseman Gordon Beckham was scratched from the White Sox's lineup Tuesday because of lingering soreness in his right hand, and Paul Konerko also remains out as he recovers from a tight lower back.

Beckham was hit in the hand by a pitch in Cleveland last week. An X-ray technician initially told him he had a broken hand, but then said he was only joking. The Sox medical staff is referring to the injury as an "irritated" hand.

"This is the worst my hand's felt in three days of playing, and I don't know why it hurts worse now," Beckham said. "This is the worst it's hurt."

Beckham said the pain has shifted from the outside of his hand to the palm and caused him to make an errant throw in Monday's game.

"Obviously, you're concerned when it hurts. I'm not really sure what's going on. I don't know why the pain is jumping from different places. There's not much I can do about it. I think I just have to rest it and hopefully it'll get better. I don't know."

Omar Vizquel moves over to second, with Mark Teahen stepping in at third base.

Konerko said his back is fine, but he is 4-for-34 lifetime against Tigers ace Justin Verlander. Mark Kotsay will start at first base in place of Konerko, who hasn't played since Sunday but will be available to pinch-hit.

Here is the Sox's revised lineup:

Why bother plunking anymore? I say we start pulling a Tonya Harding and just send in William Ligue Jr. and his son to the visitor's locker room and just start cuttin players so they can't beat the Sox!

So when the Twins come to town, slice up Mauer, O-Dog and the rest and then we can FINALLY win the AL Comedy Central!

"Dragon, how did you get so smart?"

"Pull up a couple Zimas and I'll tell ya all about it son"

*****disclaimer for the stupid....I'm mocking the dumb dragon and his solution of hitting opposing players that the Sox are incapable of beating.....I DO NOT condone cutting anyone. It's called sarcasm Thank you and go away dragon you buffoon*********

Dr. Frankensteen:

Thanks for your post backing up my "You "plunk" them before they "plunk" you." theory.

Wasn't Beckham "plunked", and Manny three times, and even Juan Pierre, and Alexi, and Rios, and Quintin is so bruised up by getting hit that he can hardly walk? So there you are.

Retaliation has no statutes of limitations, so when the Twins come to town, the first thing we do is "plunk" Thome, not necessarily on the head, but right on the old "crazy bone". If we can break that elbow bone and make it look like an accident he won't be be haunting us anymore.

It looks like Captcha is starting to reject anything longer than a tweet post.

I will be glad when the season is over so I won't have to contend with them for another year.

At least they could tell us when we have gone past the number of letters it takes for a rejection.

Sounds like Becks might have nerve damage in that hand. Should clear up by next season.

The Magic Dragon on September 7, 2010 9:44 PM

Well, let's just put that one down as you would a bad accident and never mention it again.

I see my point was made tonight about sticking it in their ears. We should have knocked a few batting helmets off before they even got into the first inning.

Now, you see what happened, they hit Manny, and he could be out for weeks, but if we had cracked a few skulls right off the bat, then they would have been afraid to hit Manny, because they knew we would hit them back!

Tomorrow,-- If I was Ozzie,(I'm not, am I?)I would have those Tigers so "Gun Shy" when they left the first inning that they would be afraid to come to bat the rest of the game.

Whatever Dragoon, that's all you ever talk about is trying to bean guys when your team is getting their a$$es kicked. You're such a sore loser cry baby.
Hows about we bean your sorry a$$, huh loser!

If that team gets anymore than 10 runs ahead of us then it is time to do a little plunkin', right in their ears.

PAULIE FOR MVP

The Magic Dragon
STICK WITH THE SOX

If Paulie was playing first tonight most likely Sox would be trailing 2-1 early instead of 6-1. Kotsay is auditioning for being release after the season. The guy can't hit & his glove is almost as bad. Beckham has left allot of guys on of late better he does sit for awhile.Agree with soxfan on a previous take. Paulie has put up very good numbers but he actually is not that good in clutch situations. But will take his glove over anyone I can think of in MLB. Paulie is 1 for 10 with sacks loaded this year.

i was a little confused about people talking about paulie playing bad defense so i thought i would just give a few stats for all the sox haters posting on here.

fielding percentage .995 Tied 4th among AL 1B
errors 5 Tied 3rd among AL 1B
assists 72 Tied 4th among AL 1B
range factor 9.38 4th among AL 1B
zone rating 2.71 6th among AL 1B

......and just for fun lets see his batting stats
AVG. .318 6th best in AL
HR 33 Tied 2nd in AL
RBI 98 6th best in AL
OBP .397 6th best in AL
SLG .582 4th in AL
OPS .979 4th in AL

now either alot of posters either hate the sox a little too much or just didnt do any research before they state their ridiculous opinion

Fast FRTEDDIE the slowest pitcher (makes me cringe to watch him pitch ) . knowing if the ump wants to could walk everybody and his pitches are so slow even Damonm can hit him,,
Whats him and OZ relatives.. OZ keeps him in there until it too late just like Bueryle the other day .. I hate to watch Freddy games .. They are so slow and you know that he will get hit. Plaese dont bunt with him pitching ..

Thank goodness Beckham is sitting.. He has been terrible the last 5 or 6 games. He must have left at least 12 runners ormore in scoring position in the last 5 games.. Hes had numerous errors at 2nd.. Doesnt know how to pivot around 2nd . Made 2 errors in 1 game that almost cost us .. Missed an easy pop up 3 ft into the grass. Missed a ground ball and yesterday on a easy DP threw the ball way wide at 1st.on a cinch DP. I dont have the stats but of his last 3 hits . 2 were scribbers off the end of the bat. He with men on third and 1 out couldnt hit a ball so many times- had 5 strikeouts in 2 games .. I say all this because both Omar and Lillybridge could/should be playing 2nd especially Lillybridge . OZ is ruining his confidence. The kid when called up and had so many clutch hits (while Beckham hurt), was hitting over 400 , and as soon as beckham gets healty , Lillybridge sits the bench and never get a `START'. NOT EVEN TODAY..I know lefty-righty advanatage but Beckham played against all righties and AJ(starts against lefties) and Quentin starts against righties.. SO what NOT Lillybridge.. I think OZ dont like him .. Oz can suck at times and this is one of them.. Just like hardly ever using Sale against lefties in crucial times, Only yesterday did OZ wake up .. letting righties pitch to twins lefties and get killed.
Oz has alot to improve on..

in 2006, the year AFTER Konerko signed his deal, he hit .313 with 35 HR and 113 RBI with a SLG pct of 558. He hit 31 HR and drove in 90 in 2007, and would have drove in more if guys like Carlos Terrera and other minor league jokesters were not hitting in front of him.

in 2008 and half of 2009, Konerko played with a fracture in his right hand. He often took cortizone shots so that he could continue to play. Most players would have just sat out.

This year he is healthy, and has good hitters in front of him, thus the high RBI totals.

For the most part, this guy has been amazingly consistent, a model citizen who does a lot for charity, and has improved each year defensively.

Yet he still gets bashed by clowns like you, who just hate the Sox and come on their posts everyday to bash them.

Pathetic !

It doesn't get much worse than this defensively.

...................

Tony, you clearly don't understand baseball or the way players are evaluated. Go back to your cave now little one.

@JVS : You said Paulie is the lowest rated 1st baseman in the American league. Get your facts straight, he is the 7th highest ranked AL 1st baseman he has a .995 FPCT what stats are you refering to ??? Also he only has 5 errors in 108 games at 1st so I don't know where your stats come from but you really don't have a clue, MLB.Com has all the stats do some research before you spout off and make yourself look stupid again !

It's funny how Konerko had his first full season performing well since the last time he was in a contract year.
Your play when I have to for my next contract act has grown stale Paulie, it's time for you to hit the road now because we all know you are only good for 2 months again next year.

Dis gusted......... you must be a twins fan because you have no facts to back up a lame statement like that. Konerko is the only hitter that has been consistent all year. My hope is manny can step to the plate in his absence.

I think we should put Manny at 1b the rest of the year and Konerko at the DH spot, that would make us unstoppable.

Paulie is the lowest rated 1st baseman in baseball this season defensively and a bad back isn't going to make him any better. Let's hope we can make it through this week without Minni pulling too far ahead.

Disgusted, how much White Sox baseball have you been watching this season?

Not too much apparently.

Disgusted -

What are you talking about??? Paulie is a potential MVP this year and the only offensive player who has been steady all season long. So you are stating that we are better off with Kotsay at first and in the lineup rather than Konerko? I dont know what you are smoking, but please send some my way!!!

The Magic Dragon on September 7, 2010 3:42 PM

sadly I have to agree with "Disgusted" paulie is having a great year, just untimely hitting is killing this team.,

I still have hope......and his name is MANNY!

GASSSSSSSSSS

Sir dragon of Mannywood
Stick with thte Sox
MANNY FOR MVP

The team will be much better with Konerko on the bench, he hurts the team every time he tries to field a ball and his bat seems to only come alive when we don't need it.
Enjoy California next year Paul, your best years are behind you and it's time for us to move on.
