ESPN.com reports: The Yankees acquired pitcher Kerry Wood from the Cleveland Indians, the third deal in less than 24 hours for the World Series champions as they beefed up for the stretch run.
The Yankees sent Cleveland a player to be named or $500,000, and the Indians gave New York $2,172,131. New York will pay $1.5 million of the $3,672,131 remaining on Wood's $10.5 million salary this year. His contract includes an $11 million team option for 2011.
The amount of cash the Yankees are getting in the Kerry Wood deal is tied to Wood's health the rest of the year, a source familiar with the deal told ESPN.com senior writer Jayson Stark.

Yeah, I guess he deserves it...if he actually contributes positively. He's basically accomplished nothing since '04 except he only blew 6 saves in '08. Girardi, sure, come back. Wood...no thanks.
Next season after Woody has won a World Series he comes back to Wrigley and brings Joe Girardi with him.
At least Woodie get a legitiment shot at a ring now. Good news for a good guy. I just hope he can stay healthy and contribute.
Glad for Kerry. Better to be going for the gold in NY than toiling in Cleveland. Lucky to be playing for Joe Girardi, too. Hope they both come back to the Cubs next year.
Good for kerry he will get a ring now
Finally Kerry gets his World Series ring this year.
Congrats.
