Is Stephen Starsburg like these two, but in a bad way? (File photos) White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper compared Nationals star Stephen Strasburg to Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, who both endured shoulder troubles that plagued their entire careers after arriving to the big leagues with similar hype. Strasburg went on the 15-day DL this week with shoulder inflammation.
"(With Strasburg) The real concern is what I call an upside-down arm action," Cooper told MLB Network Radio on SIRIUS XM on Thursday.
"It reminds me a little bit of Kerry Wood, a little bit of Mark Prior. I hope I'm wrong about this," said Cooper, whose White Sox were held to one run over seven innings by Strasburg in his third major-league start. "When you throw with the kind of talent and force that he can throw, you can break easier than let's say a Mark Buehrle type."

My comment was a compliment or at least meant as one. He knows his stuff, unlike most fans. I would be interested in any documentation/articles quoting someone with expertise stating that Peavy's mechanics were poor. Show me the facts. A couple of armchair managers and pitching coaches opinions don't make it so. When the dealt for JP I am sure they would have sought Coop's opinion.
You are assuming there is a mechanical problem with Peavy. I have not heard this mentioned by knowledgable baseball people or sportswriters. I would suggest Coop has forgotten more about pitching than most fans.

Too bad he couldn't figure out Peavy's mechanical problems prior to him blowing out his arm. I can't help but notice that he failed to mention him.
