Staff reportMayor Richard Daley was nearly hit with a flying bat at Wednesday night's White Sox game against the Mariners at U.S. Cellular Field.
The longtime Sox fan was sitting behind the third-base dugout when in the fourth inning left fielder Andruw Jones struck out and let go of his bat. Daley flinched, the bat landed in the aisle and into the hands of a woman in the next row. No one was hurt and television replays showed the mayor having a laugh over the close call.

The hit wouldn't have made him any more batty than he already is. Maybe it would have helped!
At least he wouldn't have been stuttering anymore.
Hope the King Mayor doesn't bulldoze big "X's" on the field. Heavens knows bats are dangerous just like single engine airplanes are.
Are those his bodyguards making sure their OWN heads are covered?
To paraphrase Da Mayor :
"If I put this (bat) up your butt, you'll find out how effective it is. Let me put a (bat) up your, you know."
Daddgummit
The jokes are too many to mention. That made the day of a lot of aldermen.
If at first you don't succeed...
Swing and a miss! He Gone!
The bat should have knocked the idiot out forever.
The Sox might have been better off if the bat had bounced back and hit Andrue.
Sir Dragon of Mulberry
STICK WITH THE SOX
JOnes needs better aim!
LOL That bat would have just "BOUNCED" off his thick skull and shattered into 1,000,000 pieces.
sheepole get ready for a bat class and registration to follow, everyone except you gang bangers carry on !
Take "nearly" out of the headline the article would have been ones of the best all time stories.
I'm rooting for the bat.
Too bad it missed - might have been the only chance to knock some sense into him!
Way to go Andruw!
Missed it by that much.
Here comes the baseball bat ban.
