Cutler: Bears have 'little bit of a chip' on shoulder

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- It was nothing out of the ordinary for Jay Cutler as he reported for training camp Thursday.

The Bears quarterback still believes in his receivers, still believes Mike Martz's offense is complex and still believes he has something to prove.

"I think everyone does," Cutler said. "I definitely do. I think this offense does as a whole. You know, it's a young group of guys. There have been ups and downs. Some guys have been successful. Some guys haven't been successful.

"I think everyone has a little bit of a chip on their shoulder, which is I think a great thing. There's a sense of urgency to go out there and play well, which is what you have to have as a football team."

Cutler said he has yet to reach out to former Rams and Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner to ask him for tips on Mike Martz's offense.

"It takes time," Cutler said about picking up the language of the offense. "We're getting there, but I wouldn't say we're 100 percent."

Cutler talked about the approach the team will take into training camp when asked if brought anything to occupy his free time.

"I think this camp is a little bit more business for us guys, especially myself and the offense," he said. "Whenever we're not practice, we're probably going to be studying."

Ummm, just to be clear, I didn't make those prior comments about Cutler or about the stupidity of Chicago fans, that's not me. I don't think the comments are too far off in that we've all gone a little nuts over an unfinished product just because we've had so little talent at the position for so long, but the negative tone is not needed here before the season even starts.

Fans of all 32 teams should be excited right now for the season, I understand some want to think they're being "smart" or "realistic" by saying their team will suck but there's nothing stupid about being excited or optimistic, that's what being a fan is all about.

Cutler definitely has something to prove this year, but I'll withhold judgment until the year plays out. I don't think it's fair to judge him by one year playing in Ron Turner's offense.

Cutler needs to remember that chip on his shoulder when he's under the Sunday and Monday night lights in a few months. He definitely was not ready for prime time last year. Waaay to many picks pal, no matter what was going on with the line and the receivers. Two, three picks, bad yet understandable. But four? Five? Again and again and again? Not this year sir! If push comes to shove then just run away or throw it away. Please don't zing that ball anywhere again this year. Even though we had our share of problems across the board talent wise, ten less picks and we may have,
(I said may have!)been in position for the playoffs.
Stop throwing all those motha-luvin picks dude! Dominate!

offense top 25 with consistently good o line play.
defense top 20. defensive backfield and harris questions.
both questionable improvements.
record 7/9 or 6/10.
cutler top 35 qb. i watched him in denver and he is the real problem, more than you can imagine.

offense top 10 with consistently good o line play.

defense top 16. defensive backfield and harris questions.

both big improvements.

record 9/7 or 10/6.

cutler top 5 qb. i watched him in denver and he is the real deal. more than you can imagine.

Joe V- Good comment. You just put that I'm the dumbest person on here, yet had nothing to say. Way to go.

I can't believe you can't figure out why he said it, I'm guessing you're alone there.

Let's see: Lovie is still the coach, they're still running the long-solved Cover-2, and they're going to WIN??? Did this writer cover widgets last year???

Well apparently we have people on here who are smarter than the odds makers in Vegas. They have the Bears at 8 1/2 wins. One odds maker was on espn radio stating that he believes the bears can win at least 10. So instead of posting your bias crap on here mortgage your house and go to Vegas and put it all on the under if your so sure the Bears will only win 4 to 6 games. If you win then you can come back here and rub it in our face but until then could you please let us Bear fans enjoy the upcoming season.

The bears will make the playoffs this year, with the additions on the defense, peppers, harris.....Urlacher and Harris, being healthy, plus the other linebacker which I`m not going to embarras myself by trying to type his name coming back that is 5 reasons the D will be alot better, the offensive line started to gel towards the end of last season, plus when they got rid of turner they improved the offense will be a surprise with the air coryel implemented, so ye of lil faith don`t watch............

Well, how many times have you seen Farve throw an INT in a NFC championship when the game is on the line?
--------------------

We all know Cutler has never thrown a int in a post season game, pro or college, but if he EVER gets the chance to play in a playoff game my guess is he will throw an int.

Wow. I really can't believe there are people posting that the bears will have a worse season this year than they did last year. That, to the best of my knowledge, would be a first in Martz's history. Is Jay Cutler going to through interceptions? Yes. What NFL quarterback doesn't throw INT's? Everybody thinks Brett Farve is one of the NFL's best QB's. Well, how many times have you seen Farve throw an INT in a NFC championship when the game is on the line?

On a side note, I'd take Jay Cutler over Kyle Orton. Orton was a bear and I'll always love him. But he is injury prone, and can't consistently complete a pass over 30 yards.

joe Moss on July 29, 2010 4:15 PM

I'm not sure where all of this Cutler is an idiot stuff comes from but I don't think he is as stupid as people make him out to be. I've heard him speak and he sounds fine, granted he may never be a very good QB but that may have nothing to do with his mental aptitude and may just as simple as he just isn't very good at it.

Cutler will be the man! on July 29, 2010 4:07 PM

Got to love the disgruntled Broncos fans always hating on Cutler. Don't be mad cause he broke Elway's single season passing yards record and your idiotic coach ran him out of town. He had a bad year last year because he had a terrible line and a less than average receiving corps.

Hey WoJo, I am pretty sure winessed is not a word so you just took the crown for the stupidest post...Congrats!

Terry Sunday on July 29, 2010 3:45 PM

I don't think anyone realistically expect the Bears to make the playoffs this year, but I think they have a legit shot at 8-8 if they come together and things fall into place for them.
I'm definitely not sold on Martz or Cutler but at least hope for the best, if those 2 don't work out we can always change them next year, so just enjoy it and what happens happens.

Go Broncos!!!

Rocket Man on July 29, 2010 3:33 PM

You people are so negative about the greatest franchise in Chicago. This is going to be a great year for the Bears. I can just feel it. Yeah, they will make some mistakes, lose some games, have some injuries but this is going to be the most exciting Bears team since 1985 on all three phases. They just need to get off to a good start. With their schedule, 11-5 is realistic and a shot at the NFC title against the Cowboys or Packers.

I enjoy the stupidity of Bears fans as much as the next guy and really enjoy the level of fan that comes on here regularly, but for those who think Cutler belongs in some sort of elite class, I enjoy you and your kind the most. Just because the Bears haven't had a real QB since WW2 doesn't mean that this guy is a real Qb just because he can play (sometimes) between the 20's, that's where his type get their stats along with the Jeff George types he emulates.
Enjoy competing with the Detroit's of the world and watching the playoffs in cities other than Chicago, because 500 is the best you will ever see with Cuter in town.

Creighton on July 29, 2010 3:22 PM

I just wish we had Orton back and think the team should make a play for him by offering a 2nd and 3rd round pick to bring him back home. He is the kind of rugged Qb that can handle and excel in Martz' brilliance, don't get me wrong Jay will deliver, just not the way a male stud like Orton would. That's my two cents.

Creighton on July 29, 2010 3:19 PM

Hey leave Paul alone he is clearly a retard and has never watched football. If he did he would know that Cutlers 26 int's didn't even crack the top 25 in single season picks. Even if he had, he would have been in the company of such names as Peyton Manning, Joe Namath, Brett Favre, George Blanda, Sid Luckman, Fran Tarkenton, Ken Stabler, and Warren Moon just to name a few. Then again Paul is probably reading this going "who are those guys?' "I totally know football and "I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THOSE GUYS SO THEY ARE LOOSERS!"

But don't pick on him. Remember he is a tard and tards can't help themselves. If he could he would know that when Blanda got that record he through 42 in a 14 game season. It's going to take a lot to break that record. However he said all time int recrod. The all time interception record is held by Brett Farve and that is 317, I don't think Cutler can get to that this year. Seems a bit of a reach. Maybe one day Jay can crack the top 15 of that list, which features Unitas, Marino, Elway, Moon, Favre, Blanda, Fouts, Lane, Tittle, Tarkenton, etc... Maybe one day he can find his way onto that elite list. 3 more years and Manning will be on that list.

Bears Down on July 29, 2010 3:16 PM

Bears go 6-10 if Cutler gets hurt early, if Cutler stays healthy they go 4-12. Cutler has no chance to survive in a Martz system, he just doesn't have what it takes mentally.

I'm an optimist and very much looking forward to Bears football this Fall. I think it's going to be an exciting season. Which should make listening to Jeff Joniak via the broadcasts streaming online that much more gripping.

Paul and Billy Reay... When the bears start doing well this year, don't jump on the bandwagon. We don't need you two as fans. Don't even watch the bears this year since you're already skeptical after the first day of TC

Bears will go for 4-6 wins this year and the Cutler clowns will blame someone other than Cutler again. We know his fans will never understand football, let's just hope Cutler can figure it out before the Bears give up on him.

Billy Reay on July 29, 2010 2:54 PM

Cutler is such an idiot, what's next is he going to cater to the dumbest of Bears fans and tell us his first goal is to beat Green Bay this year?

Paul.....Do all of us Bears fans a favor and keep your stupid commenta to yourself.

Is that why he was always so pouty after all of those INTs last year? A chip?
If so, I'm looking for a lot of crying this year as Cutler goes for the all time INT record. Good luck with that Jethro.
