Holding up the fabled No. 10 jersey, Nery Castillo said Thursday he was ready to help provide a spark to the Fire for the stretch run.

Introduced at a Toyota Park news conference, Castillo cited his relationship with Fire coach Carlos de los Cobos as the main reason for coming to Chicago. His father played with de los Cobos in the Mexican league.

"My dad when he was in Mexico told me a lot of stories about him and his impact and he's a good person," Castillo said through a Spanish interpreter. "That helped me in thinking to make this decision."
Castillo elected not to discuss his strained relationship with the Mexican media.

"I'm very happy with the fans in Mexico and they've always treated me well," he said.

The Fire are counting on the forward/midfielder to revitalize his promising career in Chicago as a designated player on a one-year loan from Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk.

"I will try and fit in and I see good things," Castillo said. "My expectations are to win a championship and that's my goal."
