Blackhawks sign defenseman Leddy

By Chris Kuc

The Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Nick Leddy on a three-year, $2,7 million contract, according to his agent.

Leddy, who was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Wild in the Cam Barker deal in February, will leave the University of Minnesota after playing just his freshman season and will attempt to make the Hawks' roster during training camp which begins Sept. 18.

The 19-year-old from Eden Prairie, Minn., will likely start the season with Rockford of the American Hockey League. Leddy had been expected to return to Minnesota but impressed the Hawks' hierarchy during the team's Prospects Camp earlier this month.

Leddy is a 5-foot-11-inch, 179-pound puck-moving defenseman in the style of the Hawks' Brian Campbell. The deal will be completed when the paperwork is received by the NHL and is registered with the league, possibly by Tuesday night.

It was Dale Tallon who made the mailing mistake. And Barker was playing ten minutes a game before he got traded. He wansn't a key piece at all and mad too much money.

Wow, what a negative dude you are bob wire. Ripping the Hawks right after a championship. Nobody wanted to lose Ladd, Versteeg, Byfuglien, etc, but they have much in part because of Tallon's slip up, now we'll have to see what the next bunch of kids can do. Last I checked they still have Toews, Kane, Boland, Brower, Sharp, Hossa, Kopecky, Keith, Seabrook, Campbell, Hjarmelson. Lets see what Skille, Hendry, and Bickell can do on a regular basis, I liked what I saw last year. Also, I don't see the connection with the Cubs. Chill out dude and stay away from the convention, you're a buzz kill.

"This bunch wont make it past Nashville next time. They barely did the last time, now its guaranteed they wont. Kane and Toews will soon morph into the Banks/Williams love for losing tradition."

How many All Stars have the Blackhawks lost this offseason? That's right, ZERO! We may not have the depth, but we still have the strongest core of stars in the league. Banks and Williams indeed! Why do Cub fans have to pollute other teams with their ridiculous angst? Have another Old Style and relive 2003 again...

Yawn...zzz...more snoring. Hawks sign another unproven and as of yet untested at the NHL level crap shoot. Oh goody, he's a freshman, from Minnesota. We gave up Cam Barker for this? I know Barker was one of the guys made an instant millionaire by Bowmans mailing mistake last Summer, and thus has put us in this position---to trade away proven NHL and Stanley Cup caliber players for career minor leaguers and unproven prospects. Oh goody, he plays good in college. Dude aint even at Rockford yet and we're supposed to get excited? Like I've said before...Yawn. Cant wait for the Fan Convention this weekend to hear and read and see the spin bobblehead Pope John McDonut has for this season...instead of ONE GOAL. This bunch wont make it past Nashville next time. They barely did the last time, now its guaranteed they wont. Kane and Toews will soon morph into the Banks/Williams love for losing tradition.
