Granato, Ciccarelli to enter Hockey Hall of Fame

One of Chicago's best hockey stories and one of the Blackhawks' most evil villains will go into Hockey's Hall of Fame together.

Downers Grove's own Cammi Granato, captain of the gold-medal-winning 1998 U.S. women's Olympic hockey team, was announced Tuesday as one of the new electees into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Entering the Toronto shrine with her will be Dino Ciccarelli, who played 19 seasons in the NHL, the first nine as the most despised member of the hated Minnesota North Stars.
Others getting the call were Angelo James, star of a women's league in Canada; Jimmy Devellano, a longtime Detroit executive; and the late Daryl "Doc'' Seaman, a founding owner of the Calgary Flames.

In 1990, Granato began a 15-year career with the U.S. Women's National Team after playing for Providence College, where she was named ECAC Player of the Year three consecutive years, and in Canada, where she led Concordia to three Quebec titles.

"I dreamed of being in the NHL my entire life and this certainly makes up for those dreams," Granato said in a statement release by the Hall.  "Being amongst the first women to play at college and later at the Olympics, it certainly was worthwhile being a hockey pioneer".

Granato was named captain of the 1998 U.S. women's team for the Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, the first year that women's hockey became a medal sport. With terrific goaltending from Winnetka's Sarah Tueting, the U.S. team defeated Canada 2-1 in the gold-medal game, the first time the U.S. women had defeated its rival in an international final.

I used to play against Cammi when I was a kid, she was better than most of the highly skilled boys. She is a great player and had an awesome career. Congratulations!

Ok Chicago who has that old parody song of Dino set to the kinks Lola?

One of you old timers out there has to have it somewhere in your archives. I lost it and if I didn't- I'd be posting it everywhere today...

This is a travesty...

No Vaive
No Larmer

Heck even no Lindros or Gilmour?

WTF?

They can still elect 2-3 more men for the men's category. This is getting nuts. Hopefully next year it will go back to that and this is just out of respect for the women as a first time deal...

Its a Detroit conspiracy. The James D. Norris curse- lives on...

Dino

DINO SUCKS! DINO SUCKS! DINO SUCKS!

It's like the old Stadium was still standing. God, I hated Ciccarelli.

Outstanding Choices for the Hockey Hall of Fame. As a long time Blackhawks fan, (since 1968) I hated when Dino Ciccarelli played against the Hawks but would have loved having him on our team. Cammi Granato was a great representative of Womens's Hockey, The USA and a Great Champion, no matter what her Gender.

I got to know Ciccarelli off the ice and found him to be quite the opposite of the Hockey Villain we saw as a Minnesota North Star. He was also very complimentary of the Blackhawks and in one instance talked with Denis Savard after a game and shook hands and complimented each other for their efforts but acknowledged the need for not getting too chummy, or risk the edge they needed competing against each other.

Dino and a girl in the Hall?
No wonder hockey is so far down the sports priority list, who could possibly take them seriously when they keep doing stupid stuff like this.
