Jay Cutler sees no reason for Bears to add T.O.

By Vaughn McClure

Don't expect Jay Cutler to reach out to Terrell Owens via text message in the coming weeks.

The Bears quarterback was asked for this thoughts on the free agent during this past weekend's Fan Expo, and Cutler didn't exactly lobby for the veteran receiver.

"T.O. is a pretty good player, but for this system ... I don't know how he would fit in," Cutler said. "Our receiver position, I think, is one of the strengths of the team. I think there are other needs that we could have addressed if we didn't go that direction."

Cutler is confident tight end Greg Olsen still will have a role in the offense. He developed chemistry with fast-rising Devin Aromashodu near the end of last season.

"We're going to use a lot of receivers this year,'' Cutler said. "They're learning the system, just like I am. It's a little bit different than what they're used to, a little bit more Z cuts. D.A. has looked good so far. I'm definitely excited for him."

Jay (Jethro) Cutler couldn't spell "MVP" let alone ever win one.

Jackson T on April 27, 2010 8:12 AM

what else would he say? " I think our recievers are a bunch of clowns" I mean really. You know this team is puppies and rainbows...

Worst part of team is Oline, without it, you can Batman at QB and Flash at WR and it still wont work

Irishsweetness on April 27, 2010 2:46 AM

6'4. Sign him (if we had any money left after signing 3 players ... which we don't).

Creighton on April 26, 2010 9:55 PM

I don't think people were mad at the recievers last year. I think they were mad at the way they were used. We didn't see DA on the field most of the season even though Cutler kept asking for him. Again he mentioned him in this article. Hester has been and always will be a slot reciever. Martz pointed this out, but Lovie and Angelo have been trying to force him into a role he is not suited for. Knox and Bennett are decent but Bennett is more a slot type and Knox is pretty small, fast but small, which is ok in this offense as long as you have another guy with some size. The Bears pretty much draft recievers like they draft safeties, they have one type they look at and keep drafting it over and over. Strong Safeties and Slot recivers are something the Bears seem to like drafting. DA is a bit of a fluke, to tall and doesn't play the slot so no playing time for him. All of them are special team type players and most are return men as well. That includes the recievers and Safeties.

Actually, it's kinda interesting that Cutler thinks the receiving core is the strength of the team ... I think Martz said something similar a few days ago. I wanna give Jay credit for supporting his receivers. Maybe we should also give the receivers a break and just let them play. I am sure they will hit a few bumps on the road, but man, if they manage to learn the system, next season might just be the most exciting thing we've seen from the Bears in a long time.

People use to dog cuss me all the time too!

I agree with Josh! Jay is outstanding and with some O-Line help, he will do fine. He has ALWAYS been a hell of a player! He has beat me twice in OT!!

The Big Dipper on April 26, 2010 4:07 PM
Just remember, if you're saying that Cutler sucks, you're saying that you think the coaching staff could have won with a better QB.
Then again, don't worry about it, hardly anyone would say this stuff in person or if they had to use their real name.

Thats the dumbest post I've ever seen.

THATS BECAUSE CHICAGO IS RACIST, THATS WHY I WAS KICKED OUT THATS WHY TO WON'T BE WELCOME.
Besides bashing the city of chicago through the media I also go on internet forums and express my discontent with chicago. Sometimes I try and play baseball.

You guys bashing Jay Cutler are crazy, if he just develops some instinct and grows a brain he's going to be awesome.

I agree, why all the negativity?
Don't you people remember that these are the people who gave us our one winning season in 1985? If you forget the other 49 seasons that surrounded it, we had a great half century.

Support them, haven't they earned it?

____________________________

Our 1 winning season? Really? Actually in the last 50 years the Bears have have 20 winning seasons and 2...yes 2, not 1, nfl championships. 1963 and 1985. I'm certainly not happy with everything the Bears have been doing or are doing now, but geez...at least give credit where it's due. I hate negative hyperbole as much as the fans who seem to think we're going to the SB every year.

Vet on April 26, 2010 2:13 PM
I hope the bears suck for at least a few more years so most of you people will follow another team and shut the hell up.
..............................

The team has only won once in 50 years, what makes you think a couple more "Bears" seasons will make anyone leave?

i don't see any reason to add mr. distraction either. gee jc and i think alike. scarry.

Josh McDaniels on April 26, 2010 2:08 PM
I wish I still had Cutler with me in Denver! Jay is too classy to say it was the receivers fault. Jay will do well, but they need to address the O Line!

There is nothing you could possibly do to sound gayer than you did in this post.
Wasn't there anything in your head that told you to stop, that this was a really stupid idea? WOW

are you people really this stupid? What QB could of done a good job last year with the bears line?? any one?? you people get on here and talk like you know something, there is not one QB out there that could of done a great job with as meny times as Cutler was hit and sacked, not to mention the lack of run game there was and the WRs didnt like to catch the ball, but pop it up in the air, or run the wrong routes, or when the OC calls a jump ball. One bad season and you people cry cry cry like little kids. i cant belive the idiots on here, go ahead, run him out of town, you wont see a better QB on the bears in your life time. You people would of tried to run brett out of town too, and been proud of it, what idiots. Chicago dosnt deserve a good football team, not players or coaches, nothing, I hope the bears suck for at least a few more years so most of you people will follow another team and shut the hell up.

Headline;
"Jay Cutler sees no reason for Bears to add T.O."

I think Cutler thought they were talking about adding TurnOvers.

I was much more optimistic about Cutler before I saw him play every week.

Hi JayJay,
I've missed you and your tight little pants.

BearsFan11456 on April 26, 2010 1:09 PM

Like most I want the Bears to be very successful. The only drawback to this is the fact that if they are winners this year, Lovie will probably get a big raise and an extension. That's the only part of it that bothers me.
As for the real Jay's comments, I feel the same way, how the heck could having TO help the Bears. Like Todd said, learn from the Cubs mistake and DON'T sign another Parker Brothers.

Realistic fan on April 26, 2010 1:08 PM

What is with all these morons saying if you are negative you aren't a Bears fan, or you are a packers fan? Blind love for your team is idiotic. They've won once in 30 years. They plugged some holes in desperation this year but the pack and vikings are only better. Just because you have no idea what you're talking about and know nothing about football doesn't mean you are a real fan and we aren't. Idiots

It is a new year and we should support the team in whatever form it exists.
_______________________________--

So you think we should support a team even if we think it sucks? No wonder they never feel the need to win, there's too many fans like you that are happy with one winner every 50 years.
real fans make the team earn their support.

Bearsfan75 on April 26, 2010 12:57 PM

@jamesbaldwin

Cutler was just sticking up for the WR's that are on the team. That is what a leader does. Oh wait, now you can't clam him for not being a leader. Perhaps you will go back to the losing record critique or body language or some other garbage response.

At least give the guy a chance to prove himself before you throw him to the dogs...

And for the guys who are just trying to remain positive, more power to you. That is all that we can do at this point in the year. Peppers should be a fantastic addition, Martz is 1000% better than Turner, and we have Urlacher back. It is a new year and we should support the team in whatever form it exists.

And for the Packer fans that drop hate on the Bears board, enjoy seeing Peppers tee off on Rodgers...

Go Bears!!!

Well folks Jay hasn't exactly lit up our offense. So some of us fans have trouble trusting Him.

I agree, why all the negativity?

I seriously don't understand why Packer fans find it necessary to spam these threads with their inane negativity. And if you Debbie Downers are truly Bears fans, then you should be ashamed of yourselves. Fairweather fans make me sick. Could JA have drafted better? Sure. Could we have a better HC? Sure. Do we still have holes to plug? Sure. But how about we hold off on the endless & repetitive critiques until we actually play at least ONE FREAKIN' GAME?

Packer (& fairweather) fans can go fling cow patties, for all I care.

/GO BEARS!

james baldwin on April 26, 2010 12:31 PM

Jay, if wanted to hear an idiots opinion on who should or shouldn't play on the team, we would just listen to Jerry Angelo.
Give it a rest and study a playbook before you get run out of town Jay.

man all you haters out there. IF you think jay and the bears are so terrible than don;t write your silly comments cause no one cares about your pessimism. Jay Cutler will throw for 4000 yards and his picks will go down...da bears will rise in 2010 with our D and an offense that will put up big numbers, just wait Forte will have a great year and so will D.A. and Greg Olsen will be a pro-bowl tight end, so to all you haters stop commenting cause no one likes you

Good job Jay, and everyone thinks you're an idiot. You sure showed them who the real idiot is.

Do the Bears really need the Milton Bradley of the NFL? Never happy who he plays for and always wants the attention.

Hey Jay,
nice to see you've been working on your communication skills,
it has to help. Now if you could just figure out what to do about that nasty color blind situation, you might finally have a winning season in sight.
