The Bears paid close attention to a pair of local prospects and both of them will be signing with their hometown team.
League sources said that wide receiver Freddie Barnes, who caught 155 passes for 1,770 yards and 19 touchdowns last season for Bowling Green, and Indiana linebacker Matt Mayberry will sign free-agent contracts with the Bears.
Both Barnes and Mayberry made pre-draft visits to Halas Hall and were given workouts. Barnes, a Homewood-Flossmoor product, had some of the best hands of any receiver in the draft. Mayberry, a Hinsdale South product, chose the Bears over the Atlanta Falcons.
The Bears will also sign Northern Iowa safety Quentin Scott, who they worked out earlier this week. Scott gives the Bears another defensive back after they spent their first pick on Florida free safety Major Wright and drafted Kansas State cornerback Joshua Moore in the fifth round today.
Also on the list on contracts: Michigan running back Brandon Minor, Ohio State defensive end Lawrence Wilson, Montana offensive tackle Levi Horn, Michigan wide receiver Greg Matthews, Nicholls State wide receiver Antonio Robinson, UTEP CB Cornelius Brown and Nebraska DE Barry Turner.
Illinois QB Juice Williams was invited by the Bears to participate in a three-day minicamp next weekend on a tryout basis.

Mayberry woo
I think there is a difference between signing someone to a free agent contract and inviting them to a three day mini-camp for a tryout.
Thus, Juice Williams has not been offered anything other than a "look" from the Bears.
Super excited about the Bears inking free agent Quentin Scott, 6'-3" 224 lbs. with 4.43 speed in 40 from Northern Iowa. No idea why this guy wasn't drafted. Did exceptional in the Texas vs. the Nation game. Keep an eye out on this guy.

Paper here in Ft. COllins says they also signed a center from CSU.
A true "diamond in the rough", safety Quentin Scott. He will be the Bears starting FS within 2 years. I can't beleive he wasn't drafted (no later than the 4th round). Size and decent speed. He was moving up the charts for draftable FS, but wasn't. Forget these other guys, this was the Bears best choice (steal)!
Are you kidding, Juice Williams? He runs and laterals more than he passes the ball. His play reminds me of those old Ronald Reagan football movies.
Creighton,
most of the tight ends at the Combine showed more functional strength than Webb has, and several WRs and DBs beat him as well.
Apparently West Texas A & M doesn't believe in weight training. Unless he has 40 inch arms, which make it tough to bench, there is no way he should be under 20 reps.
Hopefully this is just the first pass on the list, and there are others (offensive linemen for the love of all that's holy) that are weighing their options. Seriously, any agent worth his salt would be literally throwing his OL clients towards the Bears. no future starters on the interior, unless you count Louis, who may end up being a Martz TE before all is said and done, and a LT with a back issue, and a RT who has never lined up on that side in a game. Add in a line coach with a solid reputation for teaching, and it sounds like a perfect environment for a young player at any of the 5 positions on the line.
Bears are sitting on roster cuts for the line. They have to be. Its how Angelo likes to build the line sense he can't spot college level talent at those positions.
Faneca(Pace part duo)
Jammal Brown(mat actually get cut to bad he will cost a fortune).
By the way they don;t need just a LG, they need an all new interior and a RT. Oh wait Omiyale is suppose to play that position. Great, he is suppose to play another position he has never played. Even though his lateral quickness is suspect at best. Well he is only in his 6th year his development is going really well. Most guys take 6-7 years to get good at playing a position. Sometimes 8-9 years. Thats totally normal.
Webb by the way is not a guard he will never be a guard. Wrong build, lacks the strength and no hand punch.
Conspicuously missing from the list (again): a guard.
Memo to Halas Hall: You need a guard. Badly.
addison? What kind of name is that?
1,770 yds? Thats alot!

But I didnt see his hght. Cutler likes tall WR, surely thats too much to ask for with that many yards/TDS. This sounds better than our last3 picks
no ur an idiot
They need to sign WRSeyi Ajitoutu or try to trade for Malcolm Floyd.
