Waukegan senior Jereme Richmond is Illinois' 2010 Mr. Basketball. The Illinois recruit and McDonald's All-American received 455 points in a statewide vote by media and coaches.

Champaign Centennial senior Rayvonte Rice (Drake) finished second with 201 points, while Robinson senior Meyers Leonard (Illinois) was third with 179 points. Morgan Park junior Wayne Blackshear (Louisville oral) was fourth with 122.

"Winning Mr. Basketball is another honor I've been blessed to receive," Richmond told the Tribune on Wednesday before the McDonald's All-American game in Columbus, Ohio. "There are a lot of great players deserving of this award, and for my name to be chosen is special. Now I'm part of a select group of great players from a rich tradition in basketball forever."

Richmond, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound guard, averaged 21 points, 11.4 rebounds and about three blocks per game while leading Waukegan to third place in Class 4A. He helped the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish in 2009.

Richmond was runner-up to Warren's Brandon Paul in last year's Mr. Basketball voting in the closest race in the history of the award, which began in 1981.
