By Dave van DyckLAS VEGAS -- Trying to work his way into the Cubs rotation, lefty Tom Gorzelanny had a strange three-inning no-hitter against the White Sox Friday night in a split squad game.
Gorzelanny retired the side in order in the first and third innings, but allowed a run in the second inning on three walks and a wild pitch.
"I just think I got a little ahead of myself and tried to do too much," he said. "I had to fight my way back. It's good to get it out of the way now. It was a good confidence-builder to get myself in a situation like that and be able to fight my way out of it."
Gorzelanny said the end result was a "positive experience."

"Bob Locker" is obviously an idiot with a bad sense of humor...
Is this your first full season being a Cubs fan Bob? We traded for Tom before the deadline last season. Pitching 3 innings of no hit ball is not a big deal. Benson is a bum and his wife causes trouble for him everywhere he goes. It is far better to keep your mouth shut and have people assume you are an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Walks, walks, walks. Walks just don't cut it. Even the great Nolan Ryan ended up losing nearly as many games as he won because he walked far too many batters. Nothing is any more frustrating than watching a pitcher come out with a lead and immediately start walking batters.
Gorzelanny is not a rookie. Did you just start following baseball yesterday?
This Tom guy is a good looking pitcher. He seems in control for a guy who is in his first full year. He might be our rookie this year like Wells was last year. If this guy is the real deal, then we won't need Kris Benson. I don't know if Benson can pitch a no hitter like this kid did.
