ORLANDO -- The Bulls lost Derrick Rose for the entire game with a sprained left wrist in the first quarter as the Magic stormed out to a 65-33 halftime lead.
For the second straight encounter with Orlando, Rose took a hard foul from center Dwight Howard. With 55 seconds left in the first quarter, Rose drove toward the basket and fell hard after the collision. At the end of the period, Rose was taken to the locker room.
"That is why they are one of the best defensive teams in the league, because they can control the paint with (Howard)," said Del Negro before the contest at the Amway Arena.
The Bulls entered the game without the services of starters Joakim Noah (foot) and Luol Deng (calf). The Bulls were trying to snap a 5-game winning streak, having allowed 115 points a game during the skid.
"Orlando has a lot of weapons, they score the ball...whatever it takes to win," said Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro. "We definitely have to get better defensively and control the paint better, try to junk the game up a little bit with some different coverages and maybe some zone a little bit."
The task will become no easier Friday when the Bulls travel to Miami.
"Offensively we have been productive, and we are still giving up far too many points," said Del Negro. "So we have to change our mindset. It is not a perfect scenario in terms of the teams we are playing right now to go through this, but the games are scheduled and the next guy in line has got to step up."
