NEW YORK -- Notre Dame, bubbling? Over.
The last potential trapdoor to an NCAA Tournament bid was soldered shut Wednesday night, a 68-56 victory over Seton Hall in the second round of the Big East Tournament likely eliminating all doubt that the Irish will hear their name called on Selection Sunday.
Luke Harangody officially returned to All-Big East form, coming off the
bench to score 20 points and grab 10 rebounds. Tory Jackson, scoreless
in the first half, pumped in 13 after the break, including several
backbreaking circus shots down the stretch.
And while Seton Hall dropped 109 points on the scoreboard just a night earlier, the Irish completely muzzled the Pirates on Wednesday, holding them to just 34.5 percent shooting. The Irish next face No. 2-seed Pittsburgh in a 6 p.m. matchup Thursday, though the outcome there is somewhat irrelevant to the prize Notre Dame secured Wednesday.
