The Washington Post reports: Former Cubs manager Jim Riggleman's handling of pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg in Washington has renewed debate over how Kerry Wood was handled as a rookie. While Riggleman has said he regrets pitching "Kid K" so much during the 1998 playoff push, Wood says it was only a matter of time before his elbow blew out.
Andy MacPhail, the Cubs' president at the time, said he was surprised to hear Riggleman express regret over 1998.
"I don't really have an issue with the way Jim used Kerry," MacPhail, now the Baltimore Orioles' general manager, told the Post. "I don't really remember any discussion of, 'Gee, this guy was overworked.' . . . You didn't hear much of that back then. What has changed over time is the scrutiny and the documentation" of pitch counts.

Its Big Danny Burns fault. And probably Joannie's...........
Riggleman was the least of Wood's issues. When you have Wood and Prior blow out their arms after that '03 run, it's obvious that much of the blame for both lies squarely with Dusty. I don't think he's got the term "pitch count" in his vocabulary.
