GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Manager Ozzie Guillen said he told his son Oney to resign Friday from his video job after the White Sox raised questions about the blunt nature of his Twitter account.

Guillen said Saturday morning his son made a mistake, but added that it was time to move on and talk about the prospects of the club, feeling the Twitter incidents shifted the focus away.

"I urged everyone to do some overnight thinking," White Sox GM Ken Williams said. "I got kids myself and they've all made their share of mistakes, and we've all made our own as young adults. So some times it takes a little bit of calm before you address things.

"But it was addressed Friday. At this point, I'll be honest with you. There's a lot to do around here."

Williams was referring to the large number of players in major and minor league camps and that "people have to come to me with Twitter updates and blog updates, websites. I don't even understand that kind of stuff because I got a lot of stuff on my plate."

Guillen also said he has no issues with general manager Ken Williams.

"I expect you guys to leave Kenny alone and let Kenny give me good players," Guillen said.

Guillen added later: "I got to be friendly with my 25 players. Kenny's my boss, he's always going to be and I respect that. I don't think (Brian) Cashman and Joe Torre got along that well and they won (bleeping) championships.

Guillen said the matter was discussed with chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and Williams in a telephone conversation. Two tweets sent by Oney that came into question were one that made fun of bench coach Joey Cora and another that stressed the Sox should re-sign catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who can become a free agent after this season.

"I have to put myself in the situation of feeling comfortable," Guillen said. "When you talk about your family, that's different. I don't give a (bleep) who you are. When you talk about my wife, my kids, I'll kill anybody for them. When you're not right, you're not right.

"That's why I made the decision. I made the decision. It was not Kenny, it was not Jerry, it was not (vice president of communications) Scott Reifert. It was myself (who) made that decision for them because I think I don't want to come here every day and feel uncomfortable about anything.

"What's today, the 20th? It's time to talk about how good (Jake) Peavy is, how good (Gordon) Beckham is and how good my ballclub is going to play. Everyone should be behind us and hopefully in November, we're celebrating with a (bleeping) trophy and have a nice book about how this season began.

Guillen said his son's negative tweets toward the organization needed to be addressed.

"My kid made one mistake - he got to live by it and learn from that," Guillen said. "I got to show people with this organization - everything starts from the top. My kids don't have the privilege that (others don't). I show people that. Nobody has more privileges than my 25 players. Nobody. Even Jerry's kids. If I see Jerry's kids in the clubhouse - bull(bleep) - they got to go or whatever it is. Nothing, nothing, nothing is more important than the 25 players in the organization. Nothing. Not myself, Kenny, Jerry, my coaches, nobody. The biggest thing in this ballclub is the 25 guys who got to bust their (rears) out there for us to play, to win or lose games."

Guillen said his son appeared relieved and happy to move on, adding that he has several job opportunities outside of the Sox.

"Of my three kids, I think Oney is like me," Guillen said. "He says (bleep). He says what he feels. And when we talk the truth, we hurt feelings. It's not about feelings. It's about winning. I'm proud of my family. They showed me how much they love each other and how much they care about each other.

"Sometimes your kid makes a mistake and you throw it away. You can't. I think he's going to have a better life because Oney is an unbelievable baseball person. Maybe Oney knows baseball more than I do because I just manage. Oney is very good at what he does."

Guillen firmly said that he wouldn't be put in a tough spot if Oney tweeted a negative comment about the Sox.

"Nope," Guillen said. "A lot of people tweet bad about this club. A lot. You cannot tweet or talk bad about this team while you're getting paid by this organization. And he was getting paid by the White Sox."

When asked whether he wished Oney Guillen remained with the Sox, Williams replied: "I think they made the decision that was best for them"

Oney has proven himself to be the only one in the entire organization who was right about this team.

All State Baseball Player in high school 3 years; Conference Player of the Year senior year; Top 30 Players in state senior year of high school.

Oh yea, I played football in college.

Did you make your t-ball team? Or did you just collect baseball cards? Oh wait, you still collect baseball cards! Must be why you condone this foul mouth who should be an example to our children, not someone we should be shunning our children away from.

Oh yea, just graduated, so I am not some conservative parent holding this perspective.

Sounds like ozzie should join you back in the ghetto.

Long time Sox fan...Ozzie is imploding before our eyes...too bad...but...Jerry and Kenny ARE bigger than you or your children. The boss is the boss...time for Ozzie and his filthy mouth to go...I guess when you win you can do what you want in this town...when you lose like he does, the crap gets old quick. Wake up Sox management!!!

Oney's out? Job opening! Where do I send my resume?

Meseret Hailu on March 20, 2010 9:28 PM

Chad and Jeff, please stop arguing here or we will have to ask you to resign. Why not whine @ each other on twitter. Keep up the good job Ozzie and go go Sox!

Glad to have the revisionist version 24 hours later.

Great thought, if there's a problem somewhere else, don't concern yourself with what you are doing wrong, it isn't as bad as the other one.
I hope people like you are not allowed around kids, it's sick minds like yours that is the reason the world is so screwed up.

Ozzie and his family would be better off overseas, like in HUGO chavez territory, Chavez could make him a MLB Commissioner. See how HUGO likes "twitter" then.

Ozzie is a poor manager who refuses to close his mouth!

Concerned citizen: You have obviously never played baseball, let alone a sport of any kind. The world has trouble everywhere and you are concerned about cuss words. You never would have made it on an athletic team. Plug up your sensitive little ears.

Concerned Citizen on March 20, 2010 7:31 PM

Ozzie would probably cuss in a conversation with the President. Every other word that comes out of his mouth needs to be bleeped out. It's about time to ship this guy back to the ghetto.

I'm still basking in the 2005 World Series glow.

That's about as pathetic as it gets.

Bill Riggs on March 20, 2010 6:58 PM

I'm still basking in the 2005 World Series glow. Who cares. Cub Fans 101 and counting.

Disgusted on March 20, 2010 5:20 PM

I was wondering which fool would be the first to claim jealousy of Cubs fans. Congratulations, Jeff! Since you seem to be a simple sort, I'll keep it simple for you. Being a baseball fan is not the equivalent of being jealous of someone being taller or smarter than you, which are genetic traits. A person can be a fan of any baseball team they want. Today, they can be a Sox fan, tomorrow a Cubs fan, and a Tokyo Giants fan the day after that. If someone were jealous of Cubs fans, why not just become one. Could it because they chose not to be a Cubs fan? Or is that too complicated for you?

Ozzie and Kenny are about to blow up and it looks like it's coming soon.
Kenny has been throwing Ozzie under the bus the entire offseason. Every time he picks up one another player that has a low percentage of success, he throws out the "this is the kind of player Ozzie wants" disclaimer. Ozzie has to be getting sick of him at this point and now is stuck with another team of guys who can't play defense and are fundamentally weak while his GM is blaming him for it instead of taking responsibility for it.

You'd have to have your head buried pretty deep in the sand to convince yourself that this doesn't matter.

Great job by Ozzie to take care of the situation before it got out of hand. He disciplined his kid and it is over. Writers like Phil Rogers would love for it to continue because they need non stories. They can't write about baseball for sh#t.

i really think it was quit or get fired.

Actually, Jeff, I'm not a fan of either Chicago baseball team. I thought maybe something interesting might come out of the story, but after reading Ozzie's comments, shame on me. I've lived here long enough though to know that the White Sox have become as trendy to claim as the Cubs. Let me guess...you're a blue collar, Bridgeport-living lifelong southsider who has falsely bragged you were there the night of disco demolition, was the first to tell friends to watch out fot this kid Frank Thomas, wears a throwback block-lettered SOX hat when he goes to a Cubs-Brewers game at Wrigley, but has enough wits to admit the uni-shorts were a mistake. No? Don't have you completely pegged? It's fun to assume though, isn't it?

Fired or not, what he said is true, this team doesn't seem to care if they win or lose and the talent isn't there.

O Chad, your jealousy can be detected from miles away. You guys have gone through manager after manager and none of them have lived up to expectations. I understand why you're lashing out at a manager who's done something that no manager did in this city for almost 9 decades, because you're upset he did it on the south side rather than the north side. Keep weeping son.

HurlyBurly on March 20, 2010 3:02 PM

Ah, the entitlement generation. Good to see someone put them in their place. I mean, really, they think it's OK to publicly embarrass the organization that is paying them? Reality check Oney.

Way to go, Ozzie! You're so edgy. You swear and you're cool because of it. It's like, so alternative. It's just different and so refreshing. Keep it up! You're so unlike most people who would have given special treatment to your own family. You've got it all in perspective though. Sweet! You haven't worn out your welcome at all. People are still listening to you. I'm glad I can read your comments this time because now I can understand them even better and learn more about life.

Best wishes, Oney. You sound like a real piece of work, and you'll probably only be "successful" in life because of your father's money and connections. Guess what? No one outside of your immediate friends and family know you--much less care about you or what you have to say. Come back in 20 years when you've accomplished something (if you have).

Great job by Ozzie, he's right. I'm sure the kid will land on his feet. Maybe someone should forward this to that whiny baby Craig James over at ESPN.

We all make mistakes, It's part of life. Best of luck Oney.

Im glad hes refocusing on baseball, good job ozzie

The kid needed to know his role and shut his mouth. He just blew his shot at THE BEST job he'll ever have. His little free ride with the White Sox is over. That said, twitter is so freakin' stupid and I don't understand why the Guillen's have embraced it so much.

Scott Plocharczyk on March 20, 2010 1:11 PM

This is why he's a great leader. Nice job Ozzie.
