PHILADELPHIA -- Chris Pronger scored with 2.1 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Flyers to a 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks at Wachovia Center.

Kris Versteeg and Marian Hossa scored in the third for the Hawks. Cristobal Huet suffered the loss in goal despite a strong effort for much of the game.

The Flyers had tied the game with 2:04 left in the third period when Scott Hartnell corralled a Kimo Timonen pass near the blue line and beat Huet's stick side for his first goal since Jan. 30.

Silver you are dead on. Huet was left out to dry. That 2nd goal was his fault? The guy was blowing around Sopel and basically a Breakaway. He was within 5 ft of the net. Huet had to at the time thought that Sopel would get a stick or a bit of body on him. Not totally Blaming Sopel but C`mon. To Blame a Goalie who was stopping hard shot after hard shot???

Also what in the world are guys skating to the bench with 10 seconds left in a Game that your Goalie (31 saves) and team has played their butts off in? I mean what, they thought Philly would quit at the Most important part of the game? Bad Bad call.

2nd most points in the West and nay sayers are out in force. Yea, it's a tough loss, get over it. We had the youngest team in the league last year and went to the conference finals. We're still young and not perfect, mistakes happen. Most of the people that post on these boards after losses like these are either kids, idiots, or just turds. I suggest you all get another hobby.

typical chicago fans, always glass half empty; despite some of the deficiencies listed on all these posts I have yet to see a team that is going to beat the hawks in a best of 7 scenario. yes they have lapses and need improvement but the body of work proves that more often than not they get the job done.
And Patrick Kane isn't paid to be an enforcer, be physically dominating or any such thing. Yes he could've hustled back more but trading him for Parise??? Insane. Go watch footage of Gretzky, he was considered lazy by those standards, or is Parise better than him too?

Pesty, you're right ... I had my goals mixed up. The second goal was the weakest of the three, and if there was one I would expect Huet to stop it would be that one. Then again, it was shot from about 10 feet away without a defender in front of him, so you can't exactly call that an easy save for Huet to have to make. But those are the kind I wish he'd stop more often. Believe me, I know he's been weak as often and not in the goal.
But you'd think the rest of the team would know that too. People want to talk about the rest of the team's confidence in Huet must be shaken because of his poor performances. But what about the other way around? Huet's confidence in his teammates must be a little low as well ... I've seen poor line changes and lackadaisical play cost us goals 4 or 5 times since the olympics.
Let's call out the people who need to be called out here. Huet has had his moments where he just flat out blew it, but there are other players on the team who've done the same thing and yet we rarely hear them being called out by the media or knee jerk goalie hating fans. It's a team game, and keeping the puck out of the net takes a team, not just a goalie.

what is all this real fan stuff?? what do you think you know more than anyone else and why are you trying to prove it somehow by bad mouthing others anonymously on a sports message board?? you think you are owed something more than any other fan or somehow deserve a winning team due to your self-proclaimed superior knowledge of the game?? get over yourself and root for the hawks and be glad others are rooting along as well; or would you prefer to have a losing team playing in front of half empty arenas like we were a few years back. Take it easy buddy and enjoy the team in their current form along with the other fans

Worst loss of the year. It was not completely Huet's fault, but we still need him to make a big game winning save towards the end of the game. Defensive strategy in the last 3 minutes was flawed with not enough players back protecting the lead. With a goalie like Huet you cannot have our guys deep in Flyers territory opening the door for the counterattack at the end of the game; and you cannot change lines with 10 seconds left. Blame goes to Huet; Sopel; Kane and Quenneville primarily.

Look out tomorrow with the Caps and Alex O.
Neimi will be lucky to hold them under 5 goals.
Can you say "shaken goaltender confidence"?

Even if Talon made a mistake with Huet, which I think he did, it was still inexcusable to not fix it before the season or at least at the trade deadline. Championship chances don't come along very often - I can't remember the last cup and I'm pretty old, really I never remember us having this good a team other than maybe once with Roenick, Larmer, Belfour, etc. - and it's going to be ashame if we blow this due to an overpaid underachiever and a rookie.

There's no guarantee we can come back next year and get it right.

Watching the Hawks skate to the bench with 5 seconds left was shameful. Patrick Kane, in particular... if he wants to win a place in the hearts of Chicago fans, he needs to do it by occasionally skating his rear off to make a defensive play. [Anyone else remember Detroit's game winning goal in Game 6?]

The picture in this link explains why Dale Tallon got fired...there soon could be another picture, only showing Little Bowman---if Tallon got canned for signing Huet, Bowman needs to go for keeping him.

http://shorthandedbreakaway.com/tag/dale-tallon/

Of course todays final goal in this game wasnt entirely Huets fault...4 on 2, he's playing the puck and its able to get passed, without being touched by a Hawks player, to the other side, thats a goal nearly every time...the other goal, Sopel gave up right when the dude was getting ready to shoot it, again not entirely Huets fault----but enough excuses, he's had his chances and blown them when it has been his fault.

And overall---naw, he aint going to take us to the promised ONE GOAL land. McDonough, you fired Savvy and Tallon, little Bowman needs to be next---dude's afraid to pull the trigger and left us with two unproven entities for the ONE GOAL promise.

Coach Q, enough shouting at the Refs---start riding those out there who are dogging it, trips to Rockford, the press box, or the pine to get the message through to some of them...I'm completely unimpressed the past month and a half with this bunch.

That was bad on March 13, 2010 5:49 PM

I'm not going to blame Huet but it would be nice once and a while to make a big save...

Tell me why anyone with half a brain would be making a line change with 10 seconds left in the game? Brouwer skates into the offense with Toews and Kane back? Kane skating off so lazily to change with 10 seconds left? Seabrook didn't even look around him...

This is going to put them in a tailspin...

Um, Silver? I grew up in Minn playing goalie all my life - tried out at OSU and didn't make it, so I know a little bit about goal-tending... you're correct, the last goal is a tough save, but the one before was weak. Huets fundamentals are horrible. His angles are consistently off and he flops too early. This was evident on that goal; too deep in his net and he went down before the shot. The Hawks do not have a goalie who can carry them to the Cup. By the way, he still owes his team an apology for the sad loss to the Wings last weekend.

Quite disquieting. Just a multiple of problems from numerous parts of this team. Everyone knows of the goaltending questions, and now, recently: sloppy and casual defense play--always from the overpaid Campbell but often from Seabrook. Patrick Kane is a remarkable player in terms of puck control and passing, but far too often he is lacsidasical( sic) and soft near the boards ( can't blame him since he is small, but this doesn't change the fact the way he plays ), I'd trade him for Zack Parise in a heartbeat. No real presence before the opposing goaltender; Big "Buff" is really Big "Fluff" more often than not. Oh well, too bad!! Pediction: out before the western conference finals.

i agree with silver.

ou can forget the Hawks making a playoff run. No goal-tending, no toughness, no defense lately spells a 1st round series loss to Detroit.

Writing from Philly. Was expecting more from your team today. You have the same problem the Flyers have - I didn't see a single guy out there who looked like he wanted to take charge. No leadership, no cup.

the last goal the flyers scored was patrick kanes fault!
with less than 7 sec left and skating even with one of the 4 flyers entering the nuetral zone - he heads for the bench! watch the replay - he gives up and looks away as the flyers enter the hawk zone with a 4 on 2! watch kane defense - he gives up often. huet played a very good game!
finally!

"This is ridiculous ... our defense allows a 4 on 2 break with under 10 seconds left in the game ... we give up a goal on a cross ice pass for a shot from literally 2 feet away ... and somehow that's Huet's fault. Unbelievable. "

Not to mention a breakaway with 2 minutes to play. It seems the Hawks weren't content to win 2 to 1 since they had 4 players pressing in the Flyers end trying and score a 3rd goal instead of just killing off time

Tom Cotner, can you type anything without every letter being in capitals?? Come on, and the final goal was not Huet's fault, it was a 4 on 2, the players on the ice for that shift let that happen.

There is something seriously wrong with this team and there are not many games left to fix it. The Hawks won the last two games before the Olympic break with shoot outs and have played mediocre hockey at best since returning. Their defense has been porous and the forwards, which had been getting back on defense earlier in the year are not doing it now. Get it back boys, or it will a Cub out in the playoffs.

This is ridiculous ... our defense allows a 4 on 2 break with under 10 seconds left in the game ... we give up a goal on a cross ice pass for a shot from literally 2 feet away ... and somehow that's Huet's fault. Unbelievable.

Idiots ... all of you.

Tom, you're a moron and a half.

If you really are so blind you can't see that Huet had no chance on those last two goals, you're a disgrace to all real hockey fans.

Huet or PHOOEY?

The team will always play without confidence when it has NO faith in the weak floppy leaky, loser, AHl goaltending clinics we watch week after week.

EARLY PLAYOFF EXIT...and it will be because confidence is gone in the d and the team because of low grade goaltendng....anyone left who thinks Phooey is a good goalie...then I ask you: WHY IF HE IS SOOO GOOD>...are we still waiting to pick an official NUMBER ONE GOALIE!!!??

Last time i checked, jersey were not playing coin toss goaltending, nor Pittsburgh, or any of the contenders.

I just cannot believe we are going to the end with these goalies. It is just unreal. What are they thinking?

TOM COTNER on March 13, 2010 3:13 PM

STAN BOWMAN: If you fail to see that after today's goalie fiasco, that HUET should be demoted, then quite frankly, YOU'RE NEVER GONNA GET IT !!!

HUET must have absolutely FROZE on those last 2 goals; there is no other explanation that is warranted. HUET cannot track the puck, efficiently, STAN BOWMAN; or were you NOT listening to the experts last Sunday ???

BRING UP COREY CRAWFORD AND HANNU TOIVENEN and leave HUET in ROCKFORD to think about his decision to "RETIRE FROM THE NHL." !!!

Sopel and Huet should not be on the ice!

TOM COTNER on March 13, 2010 3:04 PM

HUGHEY HAS MORE HOLES ON HIM THAN THE SWISS CHEESE !!! WHEN ARE WE GONNA STOP BLAMING THE DEFENSE FOR THE INADEQUACIES OF HUET ??? ALL 3 GOALS WERE SOFTIES; PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

HUET SHOULD BE BANISHED TO THE ADULT LEAGUES THAT PLAY RAT TIME AT 3 A.M. WHEN THERE IS NOTHING IN THE ARENA EXCEPT FOR THAT DISTINCT AROMA OF AMONIA. THAT WOULD BE YOUR GOALIE SKILLS, HUGHEY !!!

AND WHILE I'M ON MY SOAPBOX, STAN BOWMAN, HOW MUCH LONGER DO YOU THINK THAT OUR BOYS ARE GONNA PLAY AT 100% EACH GAME, WHEN HUET GETS THE NOD FROM THE Q ???

The rest of the guys who were out on the ice at the end, better get their butts our there in front of the cameras and give Huet an apology after that.
