LAS VEGAS -- A two-run seventh-inning triple by 2007 No. 1 pick Josh Vitters helped the Cubs beat the White Sox 6-5 Friday night to even their spring training rivalry at a game apiece.

The two play again Saturday afternoon in this exhibition series that has split squads for each and could surpass the sellout crowd of 10,448 at Cashman Field Friday.

Tom Gorzelanny started for the Cubs and allowed one run in three innings, although he did not allow a hit. The lefty walked three batters and threw a wild pitch in the second inning but came back to retire the side in order in the third.

"I thought Gorzelanny's stuff was outstanding," said Alan Trammell, the "interim" manager for Lou Piniella. "To get through that inning was a good sign. Without Ted Lilly (for the first month) he's a guy we're hoping can be a starter for us."

The Sox also got a single from new third baseman Mark Teahan, who had only one hit in his first 15 spring at-bats.

The White Sox loser was Jhonny Nunez, whom was charged with two runs without getting an out. his spring earned-run average is 27.00

Bob. Come on now!!! Rest? It is two weeks into full roster spring training. They don't need rest! What the Cubs need is less shaky bullpen. Less shaky management. Less shaky players. This roster is full of underperforming overpaid players, courtesy for Mr. Jim Hendry. Take the under. This team will not win 75 games.

It's interesting to see left-handed hitter and former Gold Glover Jim Edmonds get two hits including a homer for Milwaukee in the game against the Cubs while playing center field. Is the former Cubbie going to be the latest in the very, very, very, very long list of players to make the late Mike Royko's "Ex Cub Factor" roster.

Yeah, agreed Lob (not Bob). As a real Cub fan, I'm able to differentiate between a 2 run 7th inning triple to win a game versus a shelling the Cubbies took last week. Definitely not the beat down I would have liked to see. Good that the 3rd string was able to pull out the win though. Go Cubs!

And Bob, it's spring training. If we need rest to win games now, that is not a good thing come regular season!

Beat up the Sox? No "beat up" was the 15-3 drubbing the Sox laid on the Cubs last week.

Here we go now. I told you's all last week the Cubbies needed that rain out to rest. See what happens. We beat up the Sox. Special note to the Tribune. Can you please make the letters at the bottom that we need to type in a little bigger please. I'm having a hard time seeing them. Thank you,
