Class 2A third place: Hales wins 80-70

PEORIA -- Playing at the same time some 2,000 miles apart, Jamie Adams easily outscored his older brother on Saturday.

Of course, it's not a matter of competition between Adams and Jerome Randle -- even if the University of California star has something his little brother desperately wants.

Adams certainly looked like a Division I player Saturday, scoring 22 points to help Hales capture third place in the Class 2A state tournament with an 80-70 victory over Breese Central at Carver Arena.

A 5-10 guard like his brother, Adams sank four 3-pointers to finish 10 points ahead of Randle's total in California's four-point loss to Washington in the Pac-10 tournament championship game.

"I found out they lost at halftime," said Adams, a senior who has a single scholarship offer from UIC. "It was hard for me. A lot of people don't understand how much I love my brother. (The lack of recruiting attention) was kind of frustrating for me, but my brother told me to keep playing hard and things will fall into place. It's in God's hands."

Adam's impressive skill set was on full display against Breese Central (30-5). He was 7 of 15 from the field and 4 of 9 from 3-point range, and his quickness and ability to find open teammates off the dribble was more than the Cougars could handle.

"I think it (recruiting) will pick up," said Hales coach Gary London, whose team finished 29-3. "I think he has shown a lot this whole playoff run. We had a focus of team first, and he's done a great job executing. I told these guys that individual accomplishments are the by-product of team success.

"If I'm a college coach looking for a point guard, Jamie would be on my list. He has skills not many guys have. He is quick as all get-out. His shooting is going to continue to get better, and he shot it well all year."
