Bradley calls out Piniella, Cubs -- again

By Paul Sullivan

MESA, Ariz. -- In his latest salvo aimed at the Cubs, Milton Bradley claims he wanted manager Lou Piniella to apologize to him in front of his teammates after Piniella called him a "piece of (expletive)" during a confrontation last June.

Piniella declined, according to Bradley.

"The next day, he called me into his office and wanted to apologize," Bradley told ESPN. "I felt you put me on blast, called me out in front of everybody, you're going to apologize in front of everybody.

"He didn't choose to go that route, but I accepted his apology nonetheless, because as a Christian that's what you do. I don't have time to hold grudges against people."

The day after the incident, Piniella apologized to Bradley personally and also made a public apology to him through the media for the harsh words. At the time, Bradley said he accepted it.

Now, after being traded to the Mariners, Bradley is on the offensive. He repeated to ESPN the stories of receiving hate mail and that his 3-year-old son was called a "derogatory" name.

Bradley also repeated the story of alleged racist remarks by Chicago waiters, which he told Cubs beat writers last August. In the ESPN variation, Bradley added Alfonso Soriano's name.

Bradley insisted to ESPN that Chicago is still one of his favorite cities.

"When people ask me what city you like to go to as a visitor, Chicago is always No. 1," he said. "I just really had a bad experience. I don't think the entire city of Chicago is racist or anything like that."

Would Sox fans mind if Cubs fans came to the Cell this year during a Sox-Mariners series just to boo Milton Bradley? We promise that all the regular Cubs-Sox banter will be off limits for those games. Please just allow us the satisfaction of letting this loser know how we all feel about him!

Let me start by saying this....MB is such a little baby!! In the comfort of his home now residing hundreds of miles away from the big bad city of racist chicagoans he has the courage to badmouth chicago, the cubs, and lou piniella. i think he needs to get his facts straight and recall the personal and public apology i witnessed and read about as tempers flared last season. Im sure milton was feeling so sorry for himself that he forgot to listen to the apology and start earning the trust of his organization who obvious had some kind of faith in his talents if they gave him an inflated contract of $30 mil/3 yrs.

What people don't realize is that Sox fans just being Cubs haters were the worst when it came to Bradley or Sori. I wouldn't be surprised if the hate racist mail came from them acting as Cubs fans. I am a Bleacher bum and yes we criticized him really bad but I never heard any racist comments in the Bleachers.

As a Sox fan, I'll say this:

Pinella was right.

Everywhere Bradley has played, he's had problems. But it's never, ever his fault- it's always the fans, his manager, his teammates. He's going to do the same thing in Seattle that he did in Oakland, LA, and Texas: blame everyone else for his failure to produce.

It will be the best day ever when we can stop talking about Milton Bradley. Honestly who cares about him. When his career is over no one will care about him, no one will know who he is. Hes just another idiot baseball player who makes way more money than he should. Hes Seattles problem now and I give it 3 months before we here "Ichiro isnt THAT good" or "Ken Griffey Jr. was overrated his whole career". He likes to stir things up, and thats it.

I bet this all points back to the non-alcohol family section that takes up a large area in the right field bleachers where Bradley used to patrol. Those are the trouble makers in this whole ordeal!!!

No matter how poorly he played, he shouldn't be subject to racist taunts. There is no defense for it. People are angry at Bradley for saying anything negative about Wrigley fans. But, I doubt he's making it up. We have to be better than that.

8 teams in 9 years thats all that needs to be said. he is a nutjob. period

hey stop the hatred.... isnt calling all the fans at wrigley field racists, a racists comment itself?? since they are all white accorfing to YOU!... been there many times and seena few black people... and guess what? i've NEVER heard a racial slur there ... EVER!... if some stupid idiots said something, dont paint all of the white people who attend wrigley. with the same brush... it's people like you that perpetuate racism... and if you look inside yourself, you'll see your the racists.... i'm totally insulted. like i said, have attended wrigley many times, and guess what , my favorite player ever on the cubs is black!... you should change your name to stop blaming the white people!!

Chicago was his last chance to show that he could handle the added pressure of playing professional sports in one of the top three markets. He couldn't have failed worse. Let him go and hide in the minuscule markets where he has to go on ESPN in order to get any attention nationally. Please Milton, just leave.

Hey Stop The Hatred, paint with a broad brush much?

Jesus, man. This guy's a nutcase goof ball. Andrew Dawson, Gary Matthews, Ernie F'n Banks, they all had no problems here. Shall I go on and name other "black" baseball players? Or are done hamstringing Cub fans with by playing your race card? Let me know, I'll be here all day.

Hey milton, remeber when you got thrown out of the game on opening day, Talk about a great first impression. Dont blame other people for your ability to handel the pressure. Look at Derek Lee, He had a great season where he was in the running for a Batting title. he was in chicago when this happens. Notice All of the "african American Players" who have SUCKED blame the fans in chicago because their black. Thats a bunch of whitesox poo.

Stop the Hatred on March 9, 2010 11:18 PM

Cub fans are the biggest racists in sports today. How many black people do you see in Wrigley Field on game day? Well, if you take away the players on the field, the ground crew, ushers, and concession staff you would have ZERO!!! Wrigley Field is a cesspool of hatred when it comes to black people. Just ask Mary Mitchell who, along with her son, was victimized for being black while attending a game a few years back. Milton Bradley was constantly taunted with slurs and epithets from the bleacher bums, which is a fitting name for people who have no use for black people outside of seeing them hit home runs or score touchdowns. Unfortunately, Bradley was never allowed to excel here because of his race. It is sad that in this day and age of having a black man reside 1600 Pennselvania Ave that we still have so many bigots and ignorant people in the city of Chicago and Wrigleyville.

Wow! Simply put, if you performed better and kept your mouth shut, Cubs fans would have embraced you! Enjoy Seattle. Go Cubs!

This guy is ridiculous. "I never got hate mail..wait only in LA,Oakland, Chicago" Thank god this overpaid idiot is gone

I love how he says he never got hate mail before Chicago, then contradicts himself right after that by saying he got it in Oakland and LA. I wonder if he knows he's full of crap or if he actually believes what he's saying. I have no doubt there are idiot racist Cub fans, but every city has racists. Pretty sure people didn't like him because he's just a jerk. It's always somebody's else's fault with him. And for ESPN to let him paint himself as a victim is well, not surprising for ESPN but really. Try to act like semi-professional journalists.

You are a prisoner of your own mind, you self-centered egotistical piece of poo. Who are you going to blame for your inevitable failure in Seattle?

Unbelievable. Also, nice hard hitting reporting there ESPN. Way to ask him the tough questions to call out his b.s.

Give me this moron's address. I have a letter to send.

This guy simply can NOT shut his freakin' mouth!

Hey Toasterhead, Do us a favor and STFU. You brought 99% of it upon yourself it's time to move on.
