It was quite a season debut for the Blackhawks' Adam Burish.

The forward recorded an assist just eight seconds into his first shift during Wednesday night's 3-2 overtime victory over the Kings and got into a fight 13 seconds after that. It made the Madison, Wis., native a goal short of the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" of a goal, assist and fight all in one game.

"I thought about it for sure," said Burish, who held court with the media after his first game back from knee surgery. "That's what I wanted. I was telling the guys on the bench, 'I got one, I feel it, I got one coming.' It didn't happen.

"Next time you guys talk to 'Q' (Hawks coach Joel Quenneville), see if he can keep me out there ... see if I can get the goal, the fight and the assist all in one shift. Wouldn't that be cool?"

Burish seemed to get a kick out of the fight even more than earning his first point of the season to help the Hawks get off to a quick start. As he was headed to the penalty box after the altercation with the Kings' Rich Clune, Burish pumped his fist.

"I knew who this guy was and I knew he likes to fight and kind of mix it up," Burish said. "He kind of looked over at me at the faceoff and I looked back and kind of nodded my head. As the play came around I saw him following me and he said 'let's do it" and I said, "alright, let's go.' "

Burish had a particularly good time sharing the excitement with teammate Patrick Sharp, his roommate on the road.

"Before the game (Sharp) said last year he hurt his knee and missed about 20 games and he said, 'you know, my first game was against L.A. when I came back and I had two goals that game. Just so you know, you have a lot to live up to,' " Burish continued. "So I get done with my first shift and I come back to the bench after serving the penalty, the five minutes for fighitng, and he goes, 'I think you got me. That's cooler than two goals ... in your first shift.' "

The United Center crowd also had a hand in giving Burish a lift.

"The roar from the crowd really fired me up," he said. "In warmups there were a lot of signs. One said 'Burish, my grandma is pregnant.' I don't know what that means. I skated by it and said, 'it's not mine.' "
