San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary has offered a full endorsement of new Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz, even though Martz was relieved of his duties in San Francisco following the 2008 season.

"It all depends on what Lovie Smith comes up with and how they want to go forward," Singletary told the Tribune on Wednesday morning from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "I think the Bears know there is no one more professional than Mike Martz. He will do a great job of getting the offense where they want it.

"For the quarterback they have (Jay Cutler), I think (Martz) might be the perfect guy, the perfect fit for what they are trying to do. You've got a heck of a quarterback who has a great arm. Maybe he needs a little guidance. I think Mike Martz is definitely the guy who can make that happen."

When Martz was fired from the 49ers, that organization released the following statement from Singletary:

"After an evaluation period I felt it was best to go in a different direction. This was not an easy decision because I appreciate Mike Martz, and I enjoyed working with him. He is a true professional, and I wish him the best in the future. I do recognize the need for a long term solution on the offensive side of the ball."

Mike would be a good fit for the Bears. He's no nonsense and he'll light a fire under their asses.
