Former Bears quarterback Jim McMahon was introduced Friday as the new owner of the Chicago Slaughter of the Indoor Football League.
"I got a chance to see a (Slaughter) game last year when Steve got voted into the College (Football) Hall of Fame," McMahon said. "It was very exciting and it was good football. I am excited to be a part of this team and it gives me a chance to keep my ties here in Chicago since I moved out (to Florida)."
Coached by former Bears defensive tackle Steve McMichael, the Slaughter went 14-0 last season in the Continental Indoor Football League and captured the CIFL championship.
The Slaughter joined the IFL this year and plays in the Central North Division. The Slaughter, whose home games are played at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, will open the season Feb. 27 against the Rochester Raiders.
"You guys know what kind of winner he was in town; what kind of savant he was at football," said McMichael, who offered a challenge to the Arena Football League Rush to play a game for charity during a news conference Friday.
Jarrett Payton, son of late Bears Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton, was recently signed by the Slaughter as a running back.

Nice to see this Chicago Team going to it's roots to find winners and obviously our Bears seem to miss that point. Hey Ted Phillips you see even in the lower leagues these guys get their act together.
COOL. Jimmy Mac bring a WINNER to Chgo.
