IOWA CITY -- It was a victory that was about as pretty as the scenery along Interstate 80, but it was a victory the Illini had to have and one they'll gladly take with them back to Champaign.

The Illini defeated Iowa 57-49 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. A game that looked like the final gimme on the schedule coming into the night was anything but.

Demetri McCamey had 15 points for Illinois. Mike Tisdale added 14. Iowa was as close as three points with a under a minute to play, despite shooting just 16-for-54 on the night.

The Illini, meanwhile, shot 21-for-47.
