Holt, Jaguars expected to soon part company

Torry Holt remains a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars after the team stood pat regarding roster moves Monday, despite it being the first day that teams officially could begin releasing players.

But that doesn't mean that Holt, one of new Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz's favorite receivers with the St. Louis Rams, won't soon be on the market.

The Florida Times-Union reported last week that the organization recently informed Holt and offensive tackle Tra Thomas of its plans to waive the veteran free agents, who were signed last year. The team didn't make the moves official Monday, but it's expected the Jags will sever ties with the duo sometime this week.
Out of respect for Holt and Thomas, the organization gave them advance notice of its plans to allow additional time for both players to find new teams. The Jaguars were complimentary of their contributions for 2009, but declining skills and a glut of young talent at receiver and offensive tackle made Holt and Thomas somewhat expendable.

Holt, 33, ranked third on the team in receiving (51 catches, 722 yards) while Thomas, 35, started three games, in addition to seeing action in five more games.
