Cubs' Guzman hurt, Theriot plunked

MESA, Ariz. -- Angel Guzman reported soreness in his right shoulder and will be shut down for a few days, the Cubs said Thursday.

"He's not seeing a doctor or anything like that," general manager Jim Hendry said. "We just thought that he's coming off a (knee) scope, and he's had on-and-off difficulties in the past. We're just going to take the precautionary route and push him back a couple days."

Hendry said he still expects Guzman to be ready for the season. Manager Lou Piniella said Esmailin Caridad will be on the team unless he pitches himself off it.

Ryan Theriot was hit in the left hand by a pitch from rookie Rafael Dolis, but was OK.

"It's gonnna happen," Piniella said. "First time, kids are a little nervous, trying to impress and overthrow the ball a little bit. Somebody is going to get plucked."

Piniella meant "plunked." Theriot didn't seem fazed.

"Theriot is a tough kid," he said. "No problem. The pitcher felt worse than anyone else. He was almost apologetic. The pitching coach (Larry Rothschild) said: 'Get back up there and throw it.' "

A rookie pitcher who hasn't learned how to pitch yet and only knows how to throw hard hitting someone...impossible! Lou ordering Larry Rothschild to pick one of his assassins, I mean pitchers, to take out Theriot so a 19 year old can take his place in the lineup.....that makes complete sense! Open an investigation right away! Interrogate everyone! Waterboard if you have to. We need to know if the order came from Ricketts himself, or if Lou has gone rogue. And secure the area! We need to make sure Lou didn't put any snipers on the roof to take out anyone else he doesn't want in the lineup. And find out who he favors in the battle for #5 starter. If it's Silva, we need to have a security detail on Jeff S. right away! Gentlemen, the Cubs Assassination Squad must be stopped right away! There's no telling how many lives are in your hands. You have your orders. Dismissed!

I think that it is not a coincidence that a no name rookie pitcher would "plunk" Theriot after Pinella's comments the other day that if Theriot were to be injured Castro would be the starting SS. Obviously, I don't have any proof but with the arbitration and Theriot being told Castro will be the starting SS in the future I think someone told him to throw at him. Why should the pitcher feel apologetic if you're trying to make it to the "show"?

Spring Training has jusr started & already your ripping people ???

Rothschild had to say what he did - don't want to have the kid freeze up in-season.
