NEW YORK -- Bulls management has told John Salmons to remain at the team hotel Wednesday night as it finalizes a trade for the veteran swingman, sources said.
It doesn't appear Salmons will be moving to Houston as part of a Tracy McGrady trade, as the Rockets' demands for multiple draft picks is too high.
Unloading Salmons removes all doubt about him possibly exercising his $5.8 million player option this summer and guarantees that the Bulls will have enough money to offer a maximum contract this summer.
The Bulls have a 6:30 p.m. tipoff against the Knicks, the team they have been vying against in efforts to acquire McGrady.

David Aldridge says Salmons is getting traded to Milwaukee for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson...that would mean that Tyrus Thomas is probably gone for sure. Hopefully to NY for Harrington...we could use Al's scoring!
I guess this explains the Devin Brown trade; we need someone to guard those big 2's. Sam Smith sez that Salmons is the best player in the trade. I agree with forgetaboutit for more playing time for JJohnson - and TThomas I hope. Let's see what they can do since getting past the first round of the playoffs is unlikely this year.
looking at the bulls is like looking at this years slam dunk contest, over&over&over&over
I like John, but if all goes as planned and they sign DWade or another guard to pair with Rose, he'd be excess baggage anway. Plus, his poor play as a starter this year makes me wonder if he can handle being a key player in a major market. But seems like a good guy and I wish him luck. The real question is whether this is their only move or just the first to fall into place. If they traded Salmons, Deng and Heinrich, they could sign full boat free agents.
Oh please, please, please make it happen. That way the Bulls will have enough to make a full FA offer and I no longer have to watch "Sleepy" play.
Ok with me...get more cap space, maybe free up some playing time for James Johnson, and hopefully keep Hinrich and Ty Thomas.
