By Mark GonzalesGLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mark Buehrle will be the White Sox's Opening Day starter, manager Ozzie Guillen announced Sunday.
Buehrle will face Cleveland on April 5, followed by Jake Peavy on April 7. Guillen said the rest of the rotation has yet to be determined.
Guillen said Buehrle deserved the honor, which will allow him to set a franchise record with his eighth opening day assignment, surpassing Billy Pierce.
Peavy endorsed Guillen's decision.
"Mark is very deserving of that, and he's owed that," Peavy said. "I don't really think it matters because we're going to be throwing a No. 1 at you a lot of nights. We're capable of doing some good things.''

wow, these over paid chickens don't want to start opening day? Too much pressure or something?
Wahhhhhhhhh
Man up and take the hill. They should be fighting eachother on who starts not begging the other one to take the pressure of opening day.
what a bunch of babies.
WHITE SOX......PRIDE..........TRADITION.......1919
But a tip of the hat to Billy Pierce... the face of the Go Go White Sox for many years. If anyone should ever deserve to have more season opening starts than Billy Pierce, it's got to be Buehrle. I hope they honor Billy on opening day.
I fully support on Ozzie's decision. Buehrle has been the face of the WhiteSox for long time. It feels good to hear he gets the nod. Congratulations on the honor!
Well deserved!
One of my all time favorite player.
