Bears linebacker Lance Briggs sounded like a guy who wants to see Jay Cutler get better protection.
Briggs, talking on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on WMVP-AM 1000 Friday morning morning, was asked about the experience of playing with Cutler this past season. Cutler had 26 interceptions, just one fewer than his touchdown total.
"The experience with Jay Cutler was probably the same experience I had myself, it was just disappointing," he said. "Everything I think was disappointing.

"I'm a big Jay Cutler fan and I think everyone in Chicago (will) end up
being a big Jay Cutler fan. But right now, with what we had going into
this year, Jay Cutler had a lot of problems. There were a lot of things
that were going on. He was struggling as far as trying to have time. He
didn't have a lot of time. He was trying to make things happen. I think
that Jay Cutler is an elite QB and you give him an opportunity to be
that and he is going to do it he was in the Pro Bowl with me the year
before and that's really where I'm going to leave it at. I'm just going
to leave it at that I think he is an elite QB and he will get back to
that."
Briggs also talked about the defensive side of the ball.
If he has a say in the matter, Julius Peppers would be in a Bears uniform in the near future.
"Absolutely I love a guy like Julius Peppers putting pressure on a QB each play," Briggs said. "I'd love that. But you know for us ... obviously it starts up front. Defensively it starts up front. So if we get pressure up front, that makes everything ... I don't want to say easier. But it just makes things make sense for us in the defensive back field and for our linebackers."
Peppers, 30, has 81 career sacks and is coming off 10 1/2 sack season. The Bears could use a boost at end with uncertainty surrounding Adewale Ogunleye's status and the sudden death of Gaines Adams. But Peppers could cost somewhere near $15-18 million a year.
Peppers signed a one-year, $16.7 contract with the Panthers last season fter being slapped with the franchise tag. Carolina could opt to do the same for 2010.

I'm glad Briggs is promoting Peppers, but you're right Vinnie...never in a thousand years will they pay him that kind of money. This is exactly the reason why they'll be bad this year, again.
The Bears would never spend the money.
