Bears will raise ticket prices for 2010 season

By Brad Biggs

The economy has not come back yet, but a raise in Bears' ticket prices has returned for 2010.

As expected, the Bears announced a hike in ticket prices in some areas of Soldier Field on Friday, marking the eighth time in the last nine years the franchise has raised prices in some form.

There will be no price increase for approximately 25 percent of the seats, the team said, with those seats being in the 400 level and the west grandstand. Non-club seat increases range from $2 to $17, and club seats will be raised from $10 to $20 per ticket.  The Bears non-club ticket prices now range from $68 to $125 and account for approximately 85 percent of the seating at Soldier Field.
The Bears fell in line with the majority of the NFL last season when they froze prices at their 2008 level, meaning tickets ranged from $68 to $108 per game, and club level seats were priced from $245 to $350.

The team also pointed out it actually would collect less revenue because while it didn't move prices, the city hiked the amusement tax that is included in the price. The Bears also made the purchase of season tickets easier for customers last season by allowing them to pay by credit card for the first time.

After a 7-9 season, the Bears' third straight year out of the postseason, the club will generate more revenue from season-ticket holders and single-game tickets this season as the owners and the players brace for what could be a long labor battle.

i agree with truth teller the mccheaps are letting the 3 stooges run the so called team im giving up my tickets and let some other sucker take them

So sorry, Bears:

You blew it. This is going to be a Blackhawks town very, very soon.

These fans that go to the games don't care about championships. They just go to the games to get loaded for 4 hours and boast about being attendance champions. Do they sell T-shirts or hang banners for attendance titles?

Because Wrigley and Soldier Field fans would have a dynasty!

PATHETIC AND HILARIOUS IT REALLY IS!!!! ROFL!!! ROFL!!!!

56K bagholders a year throw away their money to watch garbage. LOL....LOL...LOL....LOL....

While the McCaskey's count the money rolling in! THAT IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!!!!!!

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Eagles!!!

Keep raising ticket prices, I'll watch the games on TV and with the money I save, we can go to Mexico for the weekend.

Ha watching them from my living room is better than freezing my rear off at the UFO stadium and getting spanked to park, ripped off buying the beer and consessions and of course I don't have to drive into Shitcago ! Also the NFL Redzone on U-Verse I see all the scoring for the whole NFL every Sunday, McKaskey keep raising the prices along with Daley and all his city increase's it would never happen but would love to see attendence fall off and blackouts happen your cheapass deserves that !

Well I don't see Alderman Ed "Grandstander" Burke protesting here the way he protested the Art Institute's proposed admission increases. Bears tickets are, on average, far more expensive yet Soldier Field also sits on public park land.

So how about it big mouth showboat Burke?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

What a classy organization...
Raise ticket price for crappy product?
I'd say that's a stroke of genius!

Like I said before ( since about 1967) Wrigley gave you one or two super stars and Hallas did the same. They sold the tickets to the zombies and drunks and laughed all the way to the bank. Nothing has changed.

DOES IT REALLY SURPRISE YOU? WHAT A JOKE! ENJOY YOUR STEAK AND LOBSTER TONIGHT MIKEY!

russ mugnaini on February 19, 2010 5:44 PM

The Bears would have to pay me to go there.

The McCaskey's are a greedy bunch.

Why serve steak, when the customer will pay the same price for peanut butter and jelly? The Bears know this, heck there is even a 5 year or longer waiting list to see this garbage of a team.If you want to pay good money to go to games, its your choice and money.I would rather be tied to a tree and have my kneecaps removed with a dull wooden spoon than give them my cash.

How about a "play for pay" system? If the Bears have a winning season, they get to raise ticket prices. There would be a sliding scale for increases tied to their record. When they have a losing season, the seats get cheaper.

DJ, I like your idea. Within a few years the bears will be paying the fans to attend their home.

over priced parking.
over priced tickets.
over priced food.
pat downs just to get in the gate.
no food allowed to be brought in.
dealing with rude and/or drunks.
3 stooges running the team.
rich players who cant play.
great thing with watching bears on TV is that you can turn it off and do something fun.
The bears are the only chicago sports team I watch anymore.

I think all of the people upset with this and cancel their season tickets so i can move up on the list.

They raise the price because the tickets are in demand. It's simply business to these people. I fail to see why people continue to support poor organizational effort and complain that they raise price on tickets. I realize there is a lot of opinions on what makes a good fan but to me it's simply business too. I refuse to spend my hard earned money on an inferior product. If they want my business they'll have to put better effort into creating a team we can be proud of.

Hater of Haters on February 19, 2010 3:09 PM

You people act like the Bears organization owes you something. If the NFL isn't a business, I don't know what is. It's entertainment, it's showbiz, you act like it's some kind of birth right.

The Bears organization puts out a product so entertaining that they sell out every game at current prices. They're raising prices and they'll still sell out every game. If you don't like the product, don't buy it.

An act of pure gaul.

Dumb or Loyal? on February 19, 2010 3:02 PM

Why shouldn't they keep raising ticket prices? The fans keep paying it.

Isn't a good fan someone who shows up to back the team no matter what? That's what Bears and Cubs fans do and they get knocked for it.

Or is good fan someone who only shows up if the team is winning? That's what Sox fans do and they get knocked for it.

Its no surprise. They have raised the ticket prices every year since they built the UFO stadium except last year which they patted themselves on the back for. Citing the economy yeah right. I wouldn't mind paying double for every game if they fired Jerry and Lovie now and hired Bill Cowher. But they will wait and he will end up going to the Panthers and we will hire some out of college cheap half assed option and Tim Ruskell will be the next GM to run the team into the ground. Papa Halas is rolling in his grave right now. We look like the Raiders after they lost the superbowl in 02 thats how bad its getting.
CLEAN HOUSE PLEASE AND THAT INCLUDES OWNERSHIP!

Stay home. That might send a message.

Truth Teller on February 19, 2010 2:43 PM

I got rid of my Bears season tickets years ago. Saved a whole bunch of $$$ since then. Better to watch on TV and be able to turn it off when Lovie's boys stink up the joint. As long as you Bear fans keep paying good money to support this mediocre team, the McCheapos will keep on laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm one of the idiots who will keep paying for my season tickets. Waited too long to get them and too much of an investement to let them go.

They have us by the short hairs.

Agree with all comments but you are missing the point. This is about the City of Chicago raising taxes. You Chicagoans keep re-electing these morons. The Bears org. is just doing what all businesses do when the government raises taxes. They pass the tax increases onto the consumers. Get over it.

Yet..........the fans continue 2 support this nonsense.
The Blind leading the DUMB.

embearassedfan on February 19, 2010 2:03 PM

To cheap to fire the 3 stooges so lets raise the ticket prices again. BOYCOT the bears and send them to the poor house so they know what it's like to be a middleclass american

Well GORSH, you say yer team S#cks but that's OKAY cuz you're gonna raise the ticket prices (again) to cover the empty seats in the stadium? Hey McChintzky, do the entire football world a favor and SELL THE TEAM to someone who actually knows and loves football and not just the money that can be made from it. If papa bear were alive today you can bet those idiots Angelo and Phillips (not to mention the old bag's 3 retarded sons) would all be trying to sneak out of town before the old man hunted them down and shot them with a double barrel fulla rock salt and bacon rind. I wish I could have been a Rams fan, or a Colts fan, or a Vikes fan, or a....etc. etc. etc....ad nauseum...

Just like the Cubs...they continue to put a crappy product on the field and continue to screw the fans by raising ticket prices.

M. Brittian on February 19, 2010 1:34 PM

You don't have to stop being a bears fan just because you refuse to buy tickets. I have been a huge bears fan since the Gale Sayers era. However, I would recommend to the many fans that will continue to pay increasing ticket prices for a sub par team to unite for just one year and stay home and follow the bears through an alternative media sending a message to the McCaskeys that we are not going to let them get away with putting a half assed team on the field. Although the games that do not sell out will be blacked out on TV, the McCaskeys will lose enough revenue to give some serious thought about running this team a little differently. This also goes for buying Bears merchandise. If the end result is a much better team then it will be worth sacrificing one year. We have sacrificed the last 3 years anyway!

EmperorLilRichardII on February 19, 2010 1:19 PM

When the Clippers are arguably being run better than your franchise, it's time to take stock of what you're doing.

2 NFC Titles and 1 NFL title since 1963 (that's pathetic), whiff after whiff after whiff in the draft (Grossman and Haynes in 2003 may be the worst ever 2-pick in 1st round performance in NFL history), chasing away productive players (Parrish, Jones) while pursuing duds (anyone that has a history with Lovie), and finally, bending the fans over the barrel time after time.

Seriously, has this franchise done anything since the 80's to deserve respect/loyalty from the fan base? I honestly don't think the McCaskey family could do any more to say F--- You to the fans of the Bears unless they sold their own urine as beer....and having had a Miller Lite at Soldier Field during a Bears game a few years back, I'm not too sure they're not already doing that.

HDTV + DVR = me not having to worry about any more of their price hikes. ME GONE!

Come on people they are just trying to make more money when there is a work stoppage in the next few years. They have to line there pockets in the years leading up to the year off.

the Jacksonville jaguars should move here and play at the cell.

Oh yes! After last 3 years of the pathetic performance by a sorry organization I be first in line to buy a ticket.... NOT!!!

... but, I'm sure there will be plenty idiots who support mediocrity in life.

...and you will pay. Every game will sell out. I think they're stupid for not raising prices even more.

Let's see:
- No escalators to ridiculous 400 level height
- 45 minute lines to go to bathroom at parking lot
- long concession lines
- awful parking personell
- $300+ for the club section???

Really, McCaskeys? I'll pay money for QUALITY....however that isn't something the bears care about.

Mediocrity leads this organization. Thanks for nothing!

Man,good luck with that increase! LMAO

bearswillbegoodoneday on February 19, 2010 12:20 PM

We can barely watch the poor play on T.V, who's going to pay more to see them play in person. LMAO. We could understand if they just won a super bowl, but last year was most miserable year in recent history. I hope they expect many empty seats because many wont pay to see a prep football team in action. The whole team is a joke starting at the top with management. I hope they go 0-16 so we they can feel the wraath of all bears fans.

How about a "play for pay" system? If the Bears have a winning season, they get to raise ticket prices. There would be a sliding scale for increases tied to their record. When they have a losing season, the seats get cheaper.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

The Bears have no shame.

But there's a response to this -- Don't buy tickets, folks.

Joe Felicelli on February 19, 2010 12:09 PM

Boy, this just keeps getting better and better. Not only are they going to put the same shoddy product on the field, and keep the same poor management in charge, but they are going to make us pay more to watch it...

Amazing!
