Kris Versteeg caught iron on his first great chance of the night. He didn't leave anything to chance on the second opportunity.
Kris Versteeg caught iron on his first great chance of the night. He didn't leave anything to chance on the second opportunity.
Versteeg took a John Madden feed, skated across the crease and punched home his 12th goal of the season to put the Blackhawks on the board, and Troy Brouwer later added another score to make it a 2-0 lead over Anaheim after two periods Sunday.
Brouwer basically floated unmolested to the front of the goalmouth while Ducks defenders attended to Patrick Kane behind the net. Kane then sent a pass that ricocheted to Brouwer, who made one move before zipping in his 11th of the season.
Hawks goalie Antti Niemi, meanwhile, got help from the far post twice and stopped a 2-on-1 rush in the second period as he vies for his fifth shutout in 13 games this season.
