Cubs among teams on hand for Sheets workout

The (Monroe, La.) News Star reports: The Cubs were one of about a dozen major-league teams represented at free-agent pitcher Ben Sheets' workout session Tuesday in Louisiana, and reports are that the former Milwaukee Brewers ace threw well.

"I was impressed," Mariners scout John Stearns said. "Ben was free and easy, throwing the ball really well with not too much effort. He had good velocity. I was especially impressed with his curve ball. He's got a plus major-league curve ball with a lot of depth to it.

"It looked to me like he was healthy, and health is the key issue here. I'm going to give him a strong recommendation to our organization."

Um the reason Hendry let Harden walk is because he blows. Did you not watch last season? Pitchers who throw 115 pitches in 5 inning do not start, they relieve...

And since he was arbitration eligible he would have made close to $10 million, rather than the $7 million the Rangers gave him on the open market(still way to much)...

Sheets when healthy was one of the most dominate pitchers in the NL. He would be very valuable as a swing guy in the rotation to any team during September and beyond...

Clyder............Couldn't have said it better! Makes no sense, whatta surprise coming from this disasterous orginazation.

Give Sheets $1 mil for every game he starts. He should earn $4 mil for the year...

give him 1 year at 8.5 million with club option for 10 million in 2011 if he really did impress today

I heard on the radio this morning that Sheets was only in the high 80s by the end of his workout and looked gassed. Unfortunately, I doubt that will deter Hendry from meeting Sheets' $10 mil+ contract demand.
