Report: Jermaine Dye rejected offer from Cubs

Former White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye turned down a $3.3 million offer from the Cubs to be their fourth outfielder, according to a Tweet from ESPN reporter Jerry Crasnick.

Crasnick cites an major-league baseball executive as his source for Dye rejecting a deal that eventually went to Xavier Nady. Dye reportedly is hoping to sign with a team that will make him an everyday player.

Yes, but Chris Weber is also an idiot for calling a time out when his team didn't have any. So how can we believe anything you have to say when you can't even keep track of how many time outs your team has?

I am a cub fan and I have to admit, there are a lot of idiots that come to wrigley field that don't have a clue about baseball. They only come because they think it's a beer garden. I wish they didn't show up. I'll always be a cub fan, but I am jealous of the White Sox World Series as we'll probably never get one.

I always thought it was humerous that Sox fans call the Cubs a minor league team. Lets forget the Cubs were the original White Stockings are are the oldest team in baseball that still play for the same city, 1874 (they started in 1870, but closed down for a couple years due to the chicago fire.) What is fun is that Charles Comiskey bought the St. Paul Saints, a minor league team, and moved them to Chicago (the Americam League had evolved from the Western League, a Great Lakes Minor league Circuit.) Since the AL was a fledgling league, and Comiskey hated the Cubs since his days with the St. Louis Browns, he decided to take the name White Stockings for recognition (later shortened to Sox by a sportswriter when he put "White Sox" on his score card.) As for the drinking, the NL was "dry." Albert Spaulding, a previous pitcher, manager, owner of the Cubs, and instrumental in the forming of the NL was a tea toller. The fledgling AL decided selling at games was a good idea to bring in fans. The tea tolling owners of the NL had to follow suit as money and players left to the AL. So 1) the Sox are a former minor league team 2) the party started in AL. Ain't history fun. ;)

The Cubs draw people because of the Team, the neighborhood and atmosphere.
The Sox draw about 1/3 as many fans because of the team.
neighborhood sucks. atmosphere does too.
It's like a minor league atmosphere. The Wave, when the fans would chat 'Jose' Jose'.
Lets not forget that Sox park at one time was considered
"The biggest outdoor tavern on the Southside".
and
"The fights were routine and vicious, usually around the 7th and 8th innings after guys had sucked down maybe a 6 pack or two of beer, plus they sold hard drinks in a section of the park".

maybe a nice park but the fans that attend are scum.

Lilbro: I've been a Cubs fan since the late 40s & will continue to support them !

So you have been a chump for over 60 years, congrats!

To North Side Sux Fan.....

You're as dumb as they come. God I hope you have no kids.
BTW.... At least I can understand what my team's coach says when he speaks. Someone needs to tell Ozzie to go get some Speaking classes and not anger management classes....lol

Who cares what Chicago's minor league baseball team does? The cubs are a joke. People only go there because it is a beer garden. When you are serious about watching major league baseball in Chicago, head to US Cellular Field

.........................................................

Who care about the Sux? Only like 500 hundred drunk people go see that overrated team.

Sure would be nice if the Cubs or White Sox got Johnny Damon.

This was a brilliant move for Dye, he probably knows he's washed up and his only hope of staying in the league is to find one of those DH jobs they use in the novelty league. Cubs will do fine with Nady. Dye is done as a fulltime outfielder, only a team like the whitesox would even consider using him in that role. They still have Konderko don't they?

All of the sox fans talk about the cubs not winning a World Series in over 100 years . What about the Black sox ?? Who fills their seats more than the cubs ? Not the Sox ! Real short memories huh !! I've been a Cubs fan since the late 40s & will continue to support them !

Jermaine Dye going from the Sox to the Cubs would be like going from 2005 to 1908.

Jim Charnot on January 30, 2010 7:32 PM

Jermaine Dye is a smart man. Only a dummy would accept an offer to play for a rotten disgusting pathetic lowdown losing organization.

If Dye is sooo great, why didn't the Sox sign him? Oh wait, he want's to be with a contender.

Jermaine Dye is a former World Series MVP, yes. That will get him as far as it got Hideki Matsui this year. Winning a series MVP isn't winning a regular season MVP award.

As far as the Nady signing, it's another gamble by Jim Hendry but I actually like the deal. If Dye didn't want it, Nady will be just fine. I don't have anything negative to say about Dye or the White Sox. Then again, I don't troll on the White Sox articles and bash them. For those of you on here bashing the Cubs, you might have to analyze your own life and question why you spend so much time bashing on a team that hasn't won a title since 1908 and doesn't even play in your league/division.

Christopher Johnson on January 30, 2010 12:19 PM

Well people tend to forget J.D. is a World Series M.V.P. he should'nt have to beg anyone for a position problem i have is people say he's finished yet these are the same people who think Jim Thome is still going to be a factor Why is that?

Justin Nassow on January 30, 2010 8:36 AM
In all due respect to Jermaine, going from the Sox to the Cubs is like going from Kate Hudson to Angela Lansbury.

.........................................................

Jermaine going from the white sux to the cubs is like going from Elton John to Megan Fox.

Well said Pat. At least I get a laugh at the goof balls on both sides of the fence.

Dye cant run anymore and cant throw anymore. His only chance for meaningful at bats is in the American League. As for all of you immature keyboard courage bashers from both sides, I would love to see a day when you have to identify yourselves. I bet you wouldnt be so bold if you couldnt hide behind the anonymity these threads allow you to have. Grow up and give some thought to what you post.

Sorry, all. I don't share the sarcasm about Jermaine. He's a professional hitter. Still hoping the Sox considering bringing him back--though at a reduced rate.

Yes, he slumped badly the second half, and clearly it's cost him in the off season. As spring training gets closer, perhaps he'll get off his everyday player stance and considering part-time DHing anyway.

This is great news.Nobody wants jermaine dye's sorry ass anyway.Thank goodness.

Bringhomethebacon on January 29, 2010 9:41 PM

I am truly sorry for all you Cubs fans out there. The older you are the more years of torture you have gone through. Its no big deal though, I mean anyone can have a bad century.

Abigsoxfan on January 29, 2010 9:14 PM

When was the last time the Cubs won a World Series? Oh yeah, nobody remembers. Anybody who was old enough to see it happen is dead now.

Oh Sox fans, you clowns are always good for the lulz!

we dont need no garbage sox players anyway... i love how people talk so much smack about the cubs but yeah they are constantly reading our articles.. love it.. homos. sox cant even contend in a sorry american central division. they almost made the playoffs with a losing record this year... haha sorry a**e*

Dye is too good to sign for those losers.

North Side Sox Fan on January 29, 2010 6:29 PM

Jermaine Dye wouldn't take $10 million to play for those losers. He'd rather be on a contender, like Pittsburgh or Cincinnati. They have a much better chance of winning even a Playoff Game than the Scrubs do. LOSERS!!!! BTW - Someone needs to change Lou's meds. He talks like he's just coming out of a Coma....

we don't need Sox cast-offs...
