Former White Sox otfielder Scott Podsednik and the Kansas City Royals have agreed a one-year contract, a deal that includes a 2011 option.

Podsednik, who passed a physical on Friday, likely will play center and gives the Royals some speed at the top of the lineup with left fielder David DeJesus. Kansas City started Coco Crisp in center last season but injured a shoulder injury after 49 games. The Royals declined his 2010 option, and he reached an agreement with Oakland.

Podsednik had one of his best seasons with the White Sox last year, hitting .304 with 48 RBIs, 75 runs and 30 steals. He has a .277 career average with 249 RBIs and 266 stolen bases in nine major league

True 102,102,125 years to a world series. But we Cubs fans know we are not going to win it. You sox fans think you are. But you won't. Cubs fans just enjoy the summer, the baseball and the fun at the ballpark and that drives you sox fans crazy. We enjoy our season. You guys hate yours. People all over the country love the Cubs and barely know the sox and that drives you guys crazy. Why don't you just enjoy it? Cubs are fun, sox are angry.

"Although one of your players thought KC looked better than the White Sox."

Fail.

Don't worry Sox fans...You guys stand a decent chance at reaching .500 this season. Although one of your players thought KC looked better than the White Sox...Here to help.

Why people tends to remember home runs but not appreciate small ball player? Yes, Pods made several mistakes on base path last year. But at least he was not the one been strike out every time when runner in scoring position. To me, 2005 belongs to pitching and Pods/Iguchi combination. I wish him the best.

Everything ended working out for all the parties involved. Kenny offered Pods a one year deal in which he was insisting a multi year contract far above his worth. You cannot blame Scotty for asking or Kenny for refusing his request. Neither party backed down from their offers so the Sox were able to acquire a better player in Juan Pierre for less than Pods was demanding. Once the market was set and Scotty noticed his asking price would not be met by any team, and it was too late to return to the Sox, he had to take the best offer. That was Kansas City's 1 year with incentives plus an option year. Scott Podsednik will always be remembered as a baseball hero in Chicago, but in all honesty, I will take Pierre and his .301 career average, better defense and smarter baserunning everytime over Pods.

James L?
Pods his .304 last season and yet he has a weak bat?

Overall Pods was a pretty good player for the Sox. I really thing letting him go is a BIG mistake.

Good for Pods. Although he is below average as an outfielder, he contributed greatly to the 2005 MLB Championship team, and was one of the more awake players on last years sorry team. He has strengths and weaknesses. I agree with some that he could have looked pretty good as a DH for the Sox. With JP and Pods at the top of the 2010 order, the Sox could have done some damage. Guys, give the devil his do.

Pods would have made a great DH who could also play the outfield. Given he only signed a one year deal, why didn't Kenny make the move. Pods will be missed.

Kyle Orton is a winner LOL! on January 9, 2010 2:07 PM

I want 30 steaks too!

NadaSurf2009 on January 9, 2010 1:21 PM

Heck...
A one-year deal?
With DH open, why didn't the Sox just bring him back?

Son_of_Liberty99 on January 9, 2010 10:58 AM

He injured his shoulder injury? 30 steaks? These idiot newspapermen consider themselves "journalists?" This is 'professional journalism?' No, it's newspaper hack-ery. They can barely keep the paper printing and now their sloppiness extends to their lame online stories. Goodness, we'd be better off reading whatever the team puts out. It won't be completely straightforward, but at least they'll proof-read it and we'll know what they're leaving out.

RUKIDDINGME on January 9, 2010 9:46 AM

Pods will have a tough time exceeding "30 steaks" in KC especillay when Kansas City is known for their BBQ.

Weeeeeee!!!!

Veggies R Good on January 9, 2010 7:20 AM

"...30 steaks."

---and still, so speedy on the basepath. Go Scottie!

Pods was far from perfect but he was ok with me. If they can ever git rid of that dunce cap he wears whenever gets on base he could be more than ok. I am far from convinced that Juan Pierre is much of an upgrade from Pods, JP is pretty flakey too in his own creepy way. This is payback to KC for re-building our bullpen for us the past few years.

Wow, 30 steaks? That's a lot of steak.

You better believe these guys are going to give it all they got when they play the Sox. It will be like their World Series every time.

Karl from L A on January 8, 2010 8:06 PM

That's a lot of steaks.

MLB GM`s are not as dumb as Pods thought. It was reported in October that he was looking for a 2 year $15 million deal...... Wait until they find out what a stupid base runner he really is. And while that may take all season, it will only take about 2 weeks to find out that he sucks in CF........... Still, if he hits as well as he did in 2009 and they play him in LF or DH , it will be a nice pick up for K.C.

Figure out a trade to get Getz back. Getz back... Getz back to where he once belonged...

If every member of the White Sox had worked as hard as Posednik, the Sox would have won the World Series.

ExChicagoan on January 8, 2010 2:14 PM

I still want Getz back.

Jess Askin on January 8, 2010 1:59 PM

No info on if its a multiyear contract? I doubt it was more than a one year deal.

Lisa's Biggest Fan on January 8, 2010 1:57 PM

Don't tell me we are going to lose Lisa Dergan again!

Picking up five players from the 2009 White Sox in four seperate transactions. You think they can sign Dye, Thome, & Castro to add to Podsednik, Getz, Fields, Betemit & Anderson? Then they can start with former Royals pitchers Carrasco & Dotel as their pitchers.

AzureJazzMan on January 8, 2010 10:59 AM

Wow! So, we should just call K.C. White Sox South now...what with Getz, Fields, Anderson, and now Pods.
