Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd was cited for underage consumption of alcohol after his involvement in a fight early Jan. 8 in Minneapolis, according to police records obtained by the Tribune.

Floyd is among five "arrestees" listed on a report from University of Minnesota police, who had responded to a call claiming "6-to-10" people" were involved in a "physical dispute in the street." According to the report, Floyd admitted to doing "a couple of shots" earlier in the evening and had blood on his hands, feet and shirt after what Floyd told police was a "physical altercation" at a house party.

Floyd, 20, was cited in lieu of arrest for underage consumption of liquor, a misdemeanor. Minneapolis assistant city attorney Chris Dixon told the Tribune that the possible outcomes, if Floyd has no previous record, are a fine, a court appearance or entrance into a diversion program.

Notre Dame had no immediate comment when contacted by the Tribune, though the matter likely will be referred to the Office of Residence Life.

IF COLLEGE KIDS WHO PLAYS SPORTS NAME IS NOT POPULAR WHAT THEY DO WRONG WOULD THAT IT THE NEWS PAPER OR IS JUST THE KIDS WHO ARE POPULAR.

Sports world is a cruel but wonderful and fancy world. You have to practise practise and practise all the time to keep your speed and strength. So, you have to make sure that you must have the comfy equipment to protect from accidents. www.ok-jordan.com is a nice choice. Because you can spend little money to get the superior brand shoes for yourself or your beloved girlfriend. Hehe. I recommend it to you strongly.

While I dislike Notre Dame probably more than any school in America, this is a non-story to me. He is a college student having fun. Underage drinking happens everywhere.

DAN -

I assume that former basketball player your talking about getting kicked out for weed is Kyle McAlarney? Are you aware he returned to the university and the starting lineup the next season and is now playing in the NBDL? Jimmy Clausen got busted transporting alcohol early during his tenure at ND as well and didn't miss any playing time. Unfortunate situation, but Mr. Floyd will be ok.

Drinking occurs on nearly 100 percent of campuses, save Wheaton and BYU. However, Mr. Floyd will be in more trouble than the average college student -- not because he was a football player. Notre Dame has arguably the most strict student handbook in America -- you can't fart without getting in trouble with the administration. A former basketball player was kicked out of school for having weed in his car during a traffic stop. Potential recruits be careful. Plus they get 90 inches of snow. Can you say Florida?

How many students drink at fraternities and sororities? He wasn't intoxicated on two drinks.

It just happened that some slob picked a fight with him and he was forced to fight.

He'll have to answer to Minnesota and take his punishment, but I don't feel Notre Dame should do anything more.

Good Luck Michael Floyd.
