EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern's trip to Michigan State this season was memorable for far different reasons than its successful visit last season.
The Wildcats wilted in the second half to lose for the second time this season to the Spartans 79-70 on Saturday night at the Breslin Center.
Michigan State started the second half with an 18-4 lead to break out of a 30-28 halftime lead.
The Wildcats did not score for nearly 10 minutes before making just their second field goal of the second half, trailing 48-32.
Northwestern later cut Michigan State's lead to six points (71-65) with less than two minutes to play, but the damage had been done.
Other than John Shurna, who scored 31 points, the Wildcats were quiet.
Luka Mirkovic fouled out with 3:25 remaining with just four points and Michael "Juice" Thompson fouled out with less than a minute to play with just seven points.
Durrell Summers led the Spartans with 24 points and point guard Kalin Lucas scored 23 points.
Northwestern had hoped to record its second victory ever at the Breslin Center, where it won for the first time last season in one of the must stunning upsets in program history.
With the victory, Michigan State remains the lone unbeaten team in the Big Ten.
