DETROIT -- Bears coach Lovie Smith is not scheduled to face the press Monday at Halas Hall as he will be in a meeting for most of the day with general manager Jerry Angelo and members of the Bears' hierarchy.
Players will be able to talk about their 7-9 season as they clean out their lockers after doing exit interviews, but no indication will be given about the future leadership of the organization.
It is expected that Smith will return for a seventh season in 2010, but nothing is guaranteed. The Bears will conduct end-of-season meetings before assessing the year. Team officials said to expect a news conference early in the week -- probably Tuesday or Wednesday -- at which point club leaders will address the future.
Sunday was Lovie's 100th game -- check out his defining moments here.

Well, we won 2 games with Jay throwing 4 TD's in each. While it was nice, it should have felt great, but it didn't. It felt very very empty. And now, in spite of the last two games, we are on the outside, looking in, yet again. Why ? Does anyone else feel that if Aromashuda had been in there since the beginning that we just might be in the playoffs right now? I sure do! But why wasn't he in there. Well, "Trust me" Lovie says, we had receivers in there and since none were injured we couldn't get him in. He had to wait his turn on the sidelines like Earl Bennett. What the hell kind of coaching is that ??? Isn't the coach supposed to give the team the best chance to win?? What is this waiting his turn crap? I think it's Lovie's TURN to find another job, maybe at the high scchool level, and Angelo's TURN to trade down in the draft like a drafting fool for some other team ! Hello Bill Cowher !! Welcome to Chicago !
What bothers me the most about this team is the inconsistency of which it plays and the fact that the coaches have no explanation for it. If the coaches don't know what to fix then we need new coaches. Sorry Lovie and Turner. Your inflexibility and lack of ability to gameplan around your players are why you should go.
There is no reason why Jerry or Lovie should still be employed after 9:15am tomorrow morning. If either of them is allowed another season it will be clear that the fans and winning are not a priority in Hallas Hall.
It will be an absolute shame if Lovie stays. It is obvious that the Bears will be in the same shape next year. Beating Detroit was no great success. Winning over the warm dome Vikings at frigid Soldier Field with no playoff appointment was ho-hum too. Bottomline, get rid of Lovie and staff......or face the same music next year!
Bubba:
If "the performance of this team is SECONDARY to the profit margin", then why do the Bears have the 5th highest player payroll in the NFL?
Jay Cutler's contract is worth a lot more than Lovie Smith's contract. The big money is invested in Cutler and the McCaskey's will want to develop him as their QB since they are paying him so much. They won't worry about a coach who would be gone in another year anyway. The possibility is still very real that Smith will be gone after this season.
The same old Cub mentality goes on and on.
As long as the games are sold out why change anything?
Sad....but true!
"Team officials said to expect a news conference early in the week -- probably Tuesday or Wednesday -- at which point club leaders will address the future."
As the saying goes, "the more change the more remains the same"
We heard the same song last year...
Nothing will change..! Why spend money on better management and coaching staff when people in charge of this product (mess)create MAX profit for the owner. Why change anything?! The performance of this team is SECONDARY to the profit margin,as long as the peasants buy tickets and merchandise!
