Hawks, Ducks tussle to scoreless first period

It took all of 22 seconds for Sunday's Blackhawks game to reprise Saturday's scrum-filled affair, as Dustin Byfuglien and Anaheim's Troy Bodie dropped gloves and sticks and commenced bashing each other before anyone's seat was warm at the United Center.

The teams remained more figuratively tangled for the remainder of the first period, emerging in a scoreless tie despite a fair amount of good chances on both sides.

Both the Hawks and the Ducks had looks at open nets off scrums in front of the crease, but neither converted, with the Hawks' Antti Niemi on his back to stifle Anaheim's Kyle Chipcura about nine minutes in. Anaheim outshot the Hawks 11-10 in the opening period.

Meanwhile, the Hawks' Niklas Hjalmarsson was the only scratch Sunday. The defenseman didn't make the trip to St. Louis, either, after taking a puck to the head on Thursday.
