The Fire is expected to introduce former El Salvador coach Carlos de los Cobos as the fifth coach in franchise history Monday at an 11 a.m. news conference at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.
While the Fire has been tight-lipped about the search, de los Cobos told the Mexican newspaper Record that he expected to reach an agreement soon.
"I can't say more because we have promised the management in Chicago that, when there is a decision, it will be confirmed," de los Cobos told the newspaper. "For now, all I can say is that there has been good progress and that the possibilities are growing."

The combination of protracted negotiations, including the possible loan
or transfer of Salvadorian winger Julio Martinez from Mexican club
Leon, and snow hitting the Chicago region delayed an announcement
by the club until Monday.
De los Cobos led El Salvador to the finals of World Cup qualifying, its best performance in 12 years, and has spent the last two decades coaching clubs in Mexico and El Salvador. He also served a stint with the Mexican national team as an assistant and U-23 coach.
The Fire has been without a coach since letting Denis Hamlett go at the end of the season. He led the team to a 24-17-19 record in his two seasons. Hamlett had been an assistant with the Fire since the 1998 inaugural season and was promoted to the top slot after the 2007 season.
