MLB.com reports: Jim Edmonds, the long-time Cardinals center fielder who helped the Cubs win the NL Central in 2008, said Sunday he wants to come back and play for St. Louis in 2010.
Edmonds, who hasn't played since not being re-signed by the Cubs after the '08 season, appeared at Tony La Russa's animal-rescue benefit and said he was "challenging" the Cardinals manager to let him rejoin his old team and would play for the league minimum.
La Russa chastised Edmonds in 2008 for what he believed to be dismissive comments about St. Louis after Edmonds joined the Cubs.

[[He would be a GREAT asset to any team (Cubs OR Cards) looking for a mentor for younger outfielders]]
About the only thing he could "mentor" would be how to ham for the camera - dive unnecessarily for any routine 3rd-out fly ball and trot off the field as the camera pans to follow you limping ever-so-slightly so the announcer can, with tears in their eyes, describe how you give it your all on every play. >snffff<
He was an above-average [at best] CF who should probably have been a RFer, and he took himself out of games for a whole range of nagging injuries he gave to himself by flopping around the outfield grass while trying to make highlight reels. His esteemed collection of Gold Gloves were more the result of his bat than his glove, and should probably be narrowed to the one he got in '04 if they were going to be awarded simply on defensive criteria.
Thanks for being a fill-in; see ya.

Edmonds "best year" with the Cubs?... Check reality. "Why won't he come back to the Cubs", and prefer the Cardinals instead? Specifically because his best years were with Saint Louis. He won't be at the same level that he was in the mid '00's, but it will be great to have him back home in STL and retire with the right jersey.
He would be a GREAT asset to any team (Cubs OR Cards) looking for a mentor for younger outfielders, and he probably has some left-handed power off the bench, though he is by no means a full-time player any longer.
Hats off to the Cubs if he heads there instead.
he's better than what they have and can play 1b. platoon with Soriano and Byrd with their CONSENT. bats left. as this column states the Cubs didn't sign him unlike the chicago media saying he retired. when he wasn't signed he retired as he said he would.
Jim Edmonds helped the Cubs in 08. I would love to see him back in a Cubs uniform. They lsure could have used him last year too.
whatever...a .250 has-been who never played CF properly...why would Chicago care?
That would be a good choice! The Cubs appear headed back to below .500 baseball.
How 'bout coming back to the Cubs.
