SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Playing alongside two of the top players in the NHL in Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, Troy Brouwer is beginning to make a name for himself.
The winger scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, Thursday night during the Blackhawks' 4-3 victory over the Sharks at HP Pavilion. The tallies increased Brouwer's career-high in goals to 17 in 54 games this season. That already has far surpassed Brouwer's rookie season total of 10 during 2008-09.
"It's got to be the confidence factor," Brouwer said of his scoring prowess this season. "It's been coming along really nicely this year. I'm having fun doing it."
Brouwer had the most ice time of any Hawks forward during Thursday night's game with 22 minutes 55 seconds and has been clicking playing on a line with Kane and Toews.
"I've gotten a chance to play with Kane and Toews and with those two guys you're going to score and get set up. I've just been finishing. Everyone will tell you that once you get one you're excited to come to the rink and you just want to keep playing and pucks are going in for me right now."
Said Toews of his less-famous linemate: "He's got a tremendous shot. Kaner and I try to move the puck around quite a bit and (Brouwer) does a great job getting open. He shoots the puck so well that if he gets it on net it's bound to go in. It's good to see him get a nice overtime winner there to help our team stay on top."
