The Chicago Sun-Times reports: According to a scout familiar with the situation, the White Sox were one of two teams in the American League Central letting the New York Yankees know during the winter meetings this week that they covet outfielder Brett Gardner.
The Kansas City Royals also were wondering what it would take to acquire the promising 26-year-old leadoff hitter.

Gardner's offensive stats are no better than a guy we got rid of: Chris Getz. Actually, Getz had 8 more RBI. Really not the offensive production you want from a corner outfielder, especially after losing Jermaine Dye's power numbers. 0.271 BA for a leadoff hitter? Only if your goal is mediocrity. Pod person hit well over 0.300 and stole about the same number of bases as Gardner (or Getz). This is another one of Kenny's famous jokes, right?
I'm the idiot that thought the Cubs wanted him. Sorry!
I kind of like this. Would the slow infield at home help him get some infield singles (increasing his on-base a bit)? He can fly once he's on base. I don't know the contract situation very well but would the Yanks be interested in Micah Hoffpour as a bench/DH/corner?
Wow Trib, that's pretty lazy "reporting". They no longer bother to do any research or write their own articles. They just link other sources.
26-years-old hardly qualifies him as being promising, though there is a lot of blocking on the Yanks with them signing a trading for every other player in the league. Pods hit the big leagues at 27.
Hey Mike S,
Try looking into the player in question before spouting off. Gardner would be a welcome addition to our outfield.
Plus, he's white. So Mike North should like him.
Gardner hit .270 w/ a .345 on base percentage w/ 26 steals last year in just under 300 AB. Not a bad player, probably much better then Pods in the OF.
Who the hell is Brett Gardner? Is he Brett Lillibridge reincarnated? Or Jerry Owens? Are we going to spend another
April and May playing roulette with the leadoff spot? Enough crying poor, KW. I admit that Pods is a butcher in the outfield, but he's a much better option than putting another unproven commodity at the top of the lineup.
