Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly made official Friday what had been expected since the beginning of the week: Running backs coach Tony Alford will be the lone coaching staff holdover from the Charlie Weis regime.

"I got to know Tony during our days in the Big East when he was at Louisville and I was at Cincinnati," Kelly said in a statement. "He is a tremendous teacher and a great recruiter and I'm thrilled to keep him on the coaching staff. He has consistently developed his players at every school he has coached and his passion for the game is infectious."

Kelly officially also cleared up a couple other personnel issues. Former Irish great and All-Pro Bryant Young has the option to remain on staff in the defensive graduate assistant position he filled in 2009.

Also, director of football operations Chad Klunder, director of football personnel Tim McDonnell and director of football development Dave Peloquin all will remain with Notre Dame. That most notably will allow Kelly to keep intact the in-house recruiting infrastructure that allowed the Weis regime to upgrade the Irish's talent level significantly.
